My car ate a deer @ 75 MPH

Wednesday morning heading to work as normal (Average speed of 75 to 80 Mph) And out popped this 120 to 130 lbs deer (Man i didnt know deers can fly ) When i hit the deer the hood latch let loose and the hood flew up and smacked against the windshield and roof of the car. I some how managed to keep the car on the road an bring it to a stop on the middle medium of the highway. I then got out of the car to view the damage . Ill tell you i was lucky to get out of that one in one piece. Today i stopped by the body shop and $5500 and 8 days ill have my Maxima back. I have one thing to say. The Maxima took one hell of a beating but it kept my a$$ alive.

Also one other mention, the highway was full of cars that morning. Do you think one person would stop to see if i was alright. Hell no

Yikes! Yes, consider yourself lucky. A Friend of mine hit one going around 65, and ended up in the ditch...that's why you should never speed too wildly in wooded areas...

You are also lucky

If you swerve to miss a deer and hit the ditch...you are a bad driver with insurance co's but if you hit the deer like a man...just have to pay the deductable! ACT OF GOD! OR HELL in your case!

If you get your car back in 8 days you will be lucky...when I hit a deer a while back it took forever (4 weeks) and even then the sunrrof leaked. My deer thought it was Superdeer....and tried leaping a fast moving car in one leap!!! He came up a foot short and landed directly on the top part of the windshield....mmmmm I can still smell those deer guts now!!! The passing motorist stopped because they never seen a deer get hit so hard! They told me he went 20 feet in the air!

I am glad to hear you are ok! It is amazing how fast and dumb those rodents are!!! Makes you want to go out and hunt one down!!! I live in Missouri, and we refer to those things as big rodents....and they must be killed by either your gun or your vehicle...you make the choice!

Makes sense bullets don't cost $5500..well depends on what you are hunting with. I'll stick with the gun.

hopefully you got the deer and tied it down the roof of the car. Take that summabitcch home eat it! Wouldn't have a need to buy steaks for a couple of months.

Oh and yes you are lucky. My friend just hit a deer about 5-6 weeks ago and he still doesn't have his truck back. It hit so hard it actually warped the frame!!! The antlers punctured the radiator and did some more damage to the engine. He was hoping that the truck would be totaled, but he told me it was about $500 short.

Watch out for them varmits. I think timw said awhile back that a rabbit running in front of him got his wife to go along with getting some HID's. Just thought I would add that in there just in case you needed some ideas.

I just wanted to say thanks

Thanks for all the concern to everyone. I was honestly thinking of replacing my Max before this instince but after seeing how the Max handled during the accident i am looking foward to being behind the wheel of one of the safest cars i had ever driven.

Be thankful it wasn't a moose

The mooses long legs get taken out first leaving it's 500 pound body to smash through your windshield. The results can be devastating.

Just T-boned a deer last night in my 3 week old '02 GLE. Doing 65 down a nice quiet highway and BAM!! Never saw it coming. Hood is crumpled, radiator shoved back and broken, lights broken, nose is gone. All that and I came out with just a slight burn on my hand from the air bag. What a safe car! Get the estimate tomorrow and we'll go from there. Question for 2000SEMAX - Have you gotten yours back from the shop yet? If so, how does it feel? How does it look? No frame damage? What are the chances of '02 replacement parts being avaiable (isn't the nose different this year?)?

Safest car I've ever owned!

This reminds me of an old wav that used to float around the net... a man supposedly calling 911 about a deer he hit.. then put it in the car.. deer wakes up, bites him on the neck.. he pulls over and a dog attacks him trying to get to the deer. Anyone heard it? Its hillarious even if faked.

Nice thought. Way to look at the positives in the situation. Kind of like the Veal comment (yeah, I know its Venison).

Your car ran off the road and fell 500 feet off a cliff?
BlackAE says: Well at least it wasn't a 1000 foot cliff.

He he... Just playing around over here. Mind you Moose bites can be nasty. My sister was once bitten by a moose.

Consider Yourself lucky that you have deer running across your highway...being so close to the US/MEXICO border, I have to dodge illegal immigrants trying to cross my highways.

No offense to the Hispanics...

NEway, glad you're doing well and in good health...can't say much about the Max ...but that'll be as good as new in no time!

So what is the plural of moose? Is it mooses, moosi,

Anyway he should be alright, but if you hit either a moose or a deer do the southern thing and take that thing home! It's save on groceries and cooked right it can rather tasty!!!

Carbon fiber deal? You talking about a hood for the 5th gen Maxima, right? I'd like a part of that deal. Let me know when they are available!
