5spd swap soon...but where to get one?

Well, due to recent events our ship's schedule is changing drastically, and I'm gonna be able to swap out my piece of poo auto tranny sooner than I thought. I've started looking at the dealers, and for a 5spd w/LSD, they all seem to be asking $2400-2600. I was really hoping to find one cheaper than this, but since I don't know jack about where to find this kind of stuff, I was hoping y'all would be able to help me out. The price around dealers seems pretty consistent, but I think I can do better. I'm ok with a used one, as long as I can get it checked out by someone knowledgable first and make sure it hasn't already lived it's life. After 5spd comes the S/C...but first things first. Thanks!

I would try the junkyard first...call around to your local junkyards and see if they have any wrecked 5th gen. Maximas.

You just might get lucky and find it SUPER cheap (well, at least compared to the dealer).

Check www.car-parts.com for junkyards that range from $650-1500 for a used 5-speed trans.

You're also going to need a new ECU($100-300) and lots of other parts probably including axles. Keep us posted.

did you ask Dave Burnette? Anyhow, what are your plans concerning labor? Do you have a shop that is willing to do the swap. Getting the tranny is one thing, but the tougher part is finding the labor.... well, keep us all posted

Hehe, nope, but you can see why I'm eager to throw in a tranny that can take advantage of my #'s...

So dealers actually have the 5spd w\LSD? I thought those were rare and only available in Canada. $2400-2600 isn't bad for a new transmission is it? Especially a new one. How much do you figure the install price will be? I'd be cautious of getting a tranny from a junkyard... too much potential for problems.
