RT Cat.... poor quality?

Driving today, I noticed that the exhaust was making a funny sound when I gave the car quarter throttle or turned at low speeds. It sounded as if a gasket on the cat was loose. I got home and checked the gaskets and they all seemed fine. Then, I noticed the heat shield on the cat (RT high-flow cat) was loose. It turns out that one of the welds holding the thin aluminum heat shield came loose. It's not a big thing since it is just the heat shield. I bent it out of the way right now so it won't make any noise. Anyhow, anyone else have any problems with the RT cat? Any ideas on how to fix it? I was thinking of taking some solder and reattaching the thing, but I don;t think it will hold.....

Well, I just got mine in the mail today. And, I was thinking about removing the shield anyway. But, I'm sure if you use liquid-weld, it will be fine. Otherwise, you can take it somewhere and get it spot welded for a couple of bucks.

Do you notice any performance improvement with the RT cat?

Don't know yet. I've been waiting for it to arrive so I can put on my y-pipe too. Wish me luck...

thanks for the suggestion..... looks like I need to stop by the local PepBoys or HD Racing (Home Depot) sometime soon to look for this stuff.

jkratzer: it's hard to say if the cat helped much. Maybe a little at highway speeds and in the mid-range. Get a y-pipe before the cat or any other exhaust mod.....

UMD, I dont know if JB WELD or any of those liquid weld are rated for that temp that the cat gets to.

Solder definetly aint gonna work since it will only stick to copper and silver. Im sure the cat aint mad of that.

I was going to get one, but I guess not anymore, I need to buy a Ypipe, but i got a 2K1 and dont know who gots the cheapest one. Warpspeed aint come out with one yet.

thanks for the offer.... but it's no big thing. I bent the shield out of the way and no more rattles. It is after all, just a thin sheet of metal. If it happens again, I may just rip the thing off. Thanks once again Phuong....

You shouldn't but from RT. They're located less than a mile fom my house and well...basically you dont want their stuff. The business is in a dinky warehouse on a dinky dirt road with dinky workers. So what does that equal too in the product, well dinkiness my friend, dinkiness.

hehe... oh well... they are pretty well known for their high-flow cats though. since you live so close, you can probably get them pretty cheap
