why does i30 have 5 h.p. more than 01 max?
It's NOT rear muffler. It's something up front. I asked Nissan about it last year. Something about a larger pipe and front muffler. I'll dig through my email for their official response.
Okay... found the email. Maybe we should add this to the FAQ.

Ok cool. So what exactly is the front muffler? And exactly which exhaust pipe piece is larger in diameter than a 2K Max? That is something I would love to know?

If Nissan is using larger diameter pipe, that will reduce backpressure and probably cause some low-end torque loss, which will hurt your launch. Could this be an explanation. I remembered reading in the thread about something that was funky in the ECU's on AE's and that was blamed, but maybe this has something to do with it?
I have an AE which supposedly has the I30 version of the VQ, the only difference I have found between mine and the regular ones in the fact that I don't have a "Air Silencer" on the bottom of my air scoop on the intake.
All the exhaust piping looks the same.
