Good experience with tire stores
Good experience with tire stores
I had a flat last week, with a hunk of metal slicing into the tread, undermining it enough the tire was undrivable (an OEM Toyo 215/55R16).
1. Discount Tire Company: here in Houston, they don't stock the Toyo line, but were willing to order one for me...but that means no pro-rating for remaining tread depth, so about $140 for the tire. BAD: Their guy used his high-powered air gun to replace the lug nuts on my "silly spare" when I chose to look for the Toyo retailer instead, and scratched up and rounded the edges of the lug nuts pretty badly. GOOD: The counter guy volunteered to replace the lug nuts at their expense ($2 each, wholesale, he said), and did so.
2. A to Z Tire: the local Toyo dealer/distributor. Charged $13 to mount/balance the new tire, but got Toyo to replace the tire FOR FREE (even though I had 12,000 miles on it already)!!
Total cost $13.00, with the only hassle having to return to Discount Tire to get them to slowly, carefully, and manually replace the lug nuts and torque them down properly. All in all, both dealers are very good, and there's only the dumb guy with the air gun to criticize. I'm a happy camper!

Ive had pretty good experiences w/ discount tire . Ive had flat repairs done for me for free and didnt even get my wheels or tires form em(on a 200sx a while back).
of course I tipped the guy.
Just be sure to watch out for those rookie tire jockeys!!

I just replaced all four of my tires recently (44K miles). I used www.tirerack.com, and it was pretty decent. They didn't have the stock Toyo brand, so I ended up getting a set of Kumhos, and they'e working out pretty well. The site is nice, because it find tires that will match your car, and there's reviews of all tires as well so you can see what other people thought about them.
Also, they have their set of "preferred installers" who they can ship directly to, and then you can get them put on. The only issue I had was the fact that all four tires didn't get shipped together, then the local place that was going to install the tires was a huge pain in the a**, and bascially gave me the run around for a few days, telling me that they couldn't fit me in. But overall, the experience wasn't too bad.
