My "service engine soon" light has come on and the intial diganostic says it is misfiring. I decided to change all the spark plugs and test the ingition coils with an Ohm meter. All the igntion coils seem to test out between 6 -8 and I put new spark plugs also. However, My engine still seems to misfire when idling or stopped? any thoughts?

 

Just because the coils bench test fine does not mean they are. Ignition parts generally break down under load. This is difficult to duplicate off of the car. If your Maxima is a 2000-2001, just replace all six with new ones. Very common problem, many others have done the same thing.

 

So is there anyway to test the igntion coil to see is it proper firing?

 

Yes, install it in a different car with no issues.

If the problem carries over to the next car, then you've found it.

Other than that, I don't know.
