OE Filter

I'm wondering if anyone has the part number for the OE oil filter for a 2001 maxima. I picked one up at the dealership and it looks real small and its got applications for a couple of nissan and infiniti 4 cylinders. I said something to the parts guy, but he said thats the one they use now? We all know how Nissan is and I don't want to put on the wrong one on and strangle the engine. If anyone has one sitting around or an empty box, just let me know the numbers. I did search for it and got everything but the part number. Thanks in advance.

Just make sure it fits the VQ30DE engine.

That exactly what I asked the parts guy and he said they just have not upgraded the applications on the box yet. Its just the size of it that scares me.

The box should list all applicable motors. There should be a line that says "VQ30DE 95+" (or something like that).

I also was just given a much smaller filter the other day. Part # 15208-65F00. Only mentions Sentra's on the box. Parts guy insisted this was ok. Haven't installed it yet. Will check to ensure same thread size and gasket diameter as filter coming off before I install it.

There was a thread on this a while back..... http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....ght=1520865F00

15208-9E000 is the part number for 2000-2001 Nissan Maxima A33 model. Just under 5 bucks for it. This is from Courtesy Nissan.

As per Nissan's FAST e.p.current catalog...A33B Maxima. built up to 06.2000 use 15208-31U00 (japan made) replaced with 15208-9E000 (usa made) ALL A33B built 06.2000 and up, VQ30DE AND VQ35DE, Use 15208-65F00. This is physically a smaller filter but Nissan sez it actually has a greater "filtration" area...(origami???)

Well, I guess I got the right one then, cause they gave me the 15208-65F00. This one is actually smaller than the filter for the 95 nissan altima that I still have. Anyways, thanks for the input, hopefully they will upgrade the applications on the box so it won't freak anyone else out.

I went to Desert Nissan in Las Vegas about a month ago to ask for an oil filter for my '01 Maxima, and the parts guy gave me the same smaller filter that lists the Sentra on the box. I even called the place up two weeks later just to double-check if I had been given the wrong part, but they said it was okay, so I installed it.

It fits, and nothing leaks out. But it sure is a tiny little filter. Next time, I'm just going to ask for the larger filter by its part number. Afterall, my Maxima's original oil filter was the larger one.

ALWAYS use the part specified by the catalog. Application listings on the package are printed for retail display only. With Nissan if you install a part and that part is not specifically applied to that vehicle BY VIN there is NO warranty. I.e. wrong oil filter, blow motor, sorry Charlie…
