Quicker cure 4 check engine light!

Well after I realize that there is nothing wrong with my car that will put my life in danger (which I know is stupid of me to assume). Yes, i know the reason i keep getting the check engine light. I think I may have found away to turn off the check engine light without re-setting the computer, but it doesn't last long, maybe about 2-3 weeks or depending on mileage you drive I have not quit figured it out yet. After I got so upset with looking at the check engine light, one day I just sat in my car and turn the key from the off position to the on position (but Not starting the car) about 3-5 times I Don't know where that idea came from maybe from the Maxima Gods , but within I guess 24 hours with the car off there should be no check engine light when you start it back up!, I have done it about 3 times already since my check engine light came on about three months ago. I don't know if this will work for everyone, I don't know the side effects from it but nothing has happen to my car yet! So I hope this helps for some of you with the check engine. I just hate when I have people in the car and they say oh, your check engine light is on, and I say to myself Yeah like I didn't see the orange light burning a hole in my face! Good luck! Let me know if this works for anyone or if anyone has done this before

Why not go to Autozone where they'll scan it and tell you what's wrong free?

At least you'll know why it's on and then you can decide to ignore it or not..

takes about 2 seconds to check with a scanner from a major autoparts store like autozone, and you can reset the codes at the same time.

No, That's just too logical IMO, I would rather do as the OP suggested and just hope it (SES light) doesn't return.

Clear it with a code scanner. A very easy way to clear a code like the others have said. And your method..... Who knows if it even clears the code, sometimes the SES light can be off but the code is still stored in the computer. So the best bet would be the traditional way of clearing it with a scanner

back on topic:
this is better than my fix, i just have a piece of black electric tape blokcing the SES light (just like the OP, I know what's wrong with my car and it keeps coming back after being reset, and I'm too lazy/poor to fix it right now)

Well he knew what the problem was, he was just being informative and telling us an easy way to reset the light, that's good to know imho. In mass autozone isn't allowed to reset the cel anymore, and they're pretty strict about it.

Regardless of how many nights my car sits, the light WILL return after the 2nd start-up.

Is $36 too much for a cheap scanner for you? Why bother making trip to Autozone if you have to do it often? If you google or ebay, you should be able to find very cheap scanner which can read and erase codes.

I keep a scanner in one of my vehicles which keeps on tripping the infamous P0420 Catalytic Converter Efficiency Low code regularly.

I'm not yelling it seems as though i come up with an idea, and your getting on me because there are other ways to clear the light and codes. I thought the purpose of the org was to come up with idea that everyone could share. If a newb asked a question everyone makes them search, but i'm simply giving a way to do something different and everyone is throwing me answer and different solutions which i didnt ask for. So you tell me whats up with that? (no disrespect though)

See I didnt ask for help yet everyone is telling me what to do and how to do it, but the newb is forced to search for info that you are giving me because i came up with an idea which I am already aware of other solutions, just look at this thread and see what this Moderator said (Newbs....READ THIS BEFORE YOUR FIRST POST!!!

Your idea sucks, and carrys no mechanical merit, do things the right way or don't do them at all. At the very least, don't post about it. You registered in Dec 2006, you = newb.
