00-01 Clutch life and replacement recommendations
I'm on the original clutch disc for my 01 Maxima that has a little over 110K on it. It's very strong once I release the clutch pedal, but I have to push it in a fairly good way before I can switch gears. I'm getting a slight vibration when downshifting from 3rd to 2nd gear (possible indicator that I need a clutch job?)
How many miles have you all been able to coax out of your clutch disc?
Given the fact that an OEM clutch kit isn't exactly cheap, are there better alternatives for not that much extra dough?
What's the chance of the flywheel being in good shape?
Is it just me or is the gearing in a manual Max far shorter than an auto-Max? I spin at 2500RPM at 50mph (IIRC) while my 3rd gen Max spins at 2000rpm at 60MPH.

Yeah the gearing is much shorter. As for clutch life it all depends, I know a guy who got 250k out of his stock 4g clutch!! I personally think atc's blow, and there are others that agree with me on this, if you want a performance clutch get an rps, they just started making one for the max recently, I don't know anyone on here running one but they are ****ing fantastic clutches, much better than an act for similiar price. But that all depends if you even want/need a high perf clutch, clutchmasters is another alternative I'd take over act.
If you want just a stock replacement clutch google speed solutions in lambert california and get an exedy kit from them for like $110 + shipping, it's the same as oem for much cheaper, I've dealt with them many times and they are awesome and every time I've put one of there clutches in place of a 4gen stock unisia everybody LOVES it, you'll find it's no different from stock except fresher though.
As for the flywheel, chances are slim to none that it will be ok, it's standard procedure to just have it re-machined every time, in fact exedy voids your warranty if you don't have it machined. And it only cost's 40-50 dollars.
