tires

was just talking to my friend's dad today, he has a '00 I30 with 17K miles on it...dealer found one bad tire (pass. side front). Friend's dad said he wanted to run tires for a little longer, so dealer agreed to replace that one bad tire with the full-size spare tire. Now the car pulls to the left, and he does not know why. He feels he should not have to pay for an allignment as it was fine before the tire was replaced. What could be the cause of this situation (i looked at the tires and noticed a diff. in tread depth of course, but didnt think this would be enough to set the car drifting to the left). It doesnt pull THAT hard, but it does pull and i can see how that is annoying. thanks...

im thinkin this is from a stand still... because of the better traction on the right tire, the tire will grip better thus pulling the right side more, making the the car turn left.. just a guess. try replacing the other front tire too.

Maybe the replaced tire wasn't balance. Check to see if it needs to be balance. But I really don't see how the dealer could have missed that. Hope everything works out.

just like menacer said, it is the weights. They are not balanced properly.

Hey Stillen_I30, this problem is very frequent when replacing just one tire, it occur because you have on branded new tire and the other one are probably used more than 1/2, even with alignment it is not going to change, cuz you have more traction on the branded new tire.

cheers

IT's called radial pull...I work at a tire place.. try swaping the 2 front tires, I do this a half dozen times a day for people who just got an alignment and the car still pulls. It works 95% of the time ....an out of balance tire would have absolutely no effect of the kind you are talking about
