Dealer could not locate the 2k2 Max I wanted.

I was ready to buy a 2k2 Max Friday but the dealer couldn't locate what I wanted. I was looking for Sterling Mist SE with Frost-Cloth, sunroof and floor mats. I was indifferent as to whether or not it had wind deflector or mud gaurds since those things could be easily added. Invoice with destination and floor mats and sunroof is $24,250. I have also discovered that there is usually about a 3% dealer holdback. About $23,600 is what the dealer paid for the car.

Everything the dealer pulled up on the locator had leather, Bose, black cloth, or no sunroof!! The one thing I was definitely not going to pay for was Bose. I have seen too many posts saying that Bose is simply not worth the money....and at $953 (invoice) I decided I could live without it. And it seems that Nissan is pushing the Bose stereo on Maxima's with a sunroof.

When I first called the dealer to ask about financing rates he said that they had 0%...but that turned out to be for 24 months. Their going rate right now for 60 months is 5.9%.

I also noticed a few things that surprised me about the 2k2. The car that was as closely equiped the way I wanted was Sunlit Sand with Blond-cloth, Bose, and sunroof. The Blond cloth is terrible! I liked the 2000-01 "dot" style cloth..but for 2k2 they went with a real freaky geometeric dot thing...that isn't very appealing. I liked the Frost-cloth much better. I also noticed on the Blond interior that the passenger airbag door didn't match the dash! I have blond cloth/interior on my 2k Max GXE and everything in mine matches perfectly. I wasn't considering the Sunlit Sand Max (Sterling Mist is a must) I was just looking at it to get a feel for the features. I have had blond interior on my last 3 vehicles (2 being Maximas) and it is time for a change.

We didn't work out a deal..the engine is just as amazing as I imagined...but I had a hard time getting excited about buying "essentially" the same car I already have. If they would have been able to show me exactly what I wanted I might be writing one of those "whooo hoooo" posts........

Good luck finding the car you want. It's always best to get what you want on a car rather than compromising, especially if your paying that much on a car. My sister got everything that she wanted in her RAV4 but it took a while and the sun roof had to be installed. Good luck.
