P0446 code

Hello all...wanted to find out from you guys more on the P0446 (EVAP Canister Vent Control Valve Circuit) code.

Got this CEL last week...so far car drives fine with no hit in mileage. So is it safe to assume that it wont hurt anything if i dont get it fixed right away?

Also, whats the purpose of this canister and what does the code really mean? The mechanic I showed it to me and said its a valve located behind the driver side rear wheel and it's a known issue (search showed up only one hit and it wasnt helpful) with Maximas

Anyone know how much that one vavle would be (cost?)?

Thanks in advance...

Its a fuel recovery system. See http://www.asashop.org/autoinc/feb2006/techtips.htm
I don't know how much they cost but there's no rush to replace it. The problem you're experiencing is pretty benign.

NP.
One other thing. If you have to do an emissions test, you will fail because of this code.
