Sunroof Question

I've have a question about the sunroof on the 2002 Maxima. Nissan calls it a sunroof, but it is really a moonroof correct?

I consider a moonroof the following: A glass panel that can tilt up at the back, or slide open. It also has a "cloth" sliding panel of sorts that can be pulled across the moonroof (when closed) to block out the sunlight.

I consider a sunroof the following: A metal body colored panel that can tilt up at the back, or slide open. Since it is metal it does not have the sliding cloth panel.

Sunroof vs. Moonroof

What is the difference between a sunroof and a moonroof?

Sunroof is the generic term used to describe an operable panel in a vehicle roof which can let in light and/or air. Moonroof is a term created by Ford in the 70's, yet is now used generically to describe glass panel inbuilt electric sunroofs.

dont ask me why there is a sunroofs.org but there is

Re: sun vs moon

Uh, backwards??

Also, aren't sunroof's like, DEAD? Any new car I see has a moonroof. The moonroof has all the functionality of a sunroof plus some more.

My understanding of the sunroof vs. moonroof was that a sunroof only popped up (Like when you press forward on our "moonroof" switch.) But, a moonroof slides back and "opens." Doesn't matter if it goes into the roof line, or up and over the roof line.

according to sunroofs.org a moonroof is basically a type of sunroof. a sunroof is an 'operable panel in a vehicle roof which can let in light and/or air...a moonroof is an 'operable panel in a vehicle roof which can let in light and/or air' that happens to be see-through or glass. i think for the most part non-moonroof (not transparent) type sunroofs are nonexistant anymore.
