Oxygen Sensors - Should I replace them?
Oxygen Sensors - Should I replace them?
I have an 01 20th anniversary maxima and am getting a sporatic P0171 code (lean bank 1). It comes on for a few days, goes off for a few... seems to be on more than off lately.
From what I understand o2 sensors are only good for about 100k, I have 130k on the car. Should I replace the o2 sensors and hope the code goes away? Would replacing them be beneficial anyway to improve fuel economy? If so should I replace just the front two, or all four?

Take a look at this http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=538422. I just went through that same thing with my 20th Anniv and it was the Air Flow Meter.
An experienced Nissan Tech said the 2000-2001 Maximas have weak air flow meters and as they fail (or get dirty) they post the P0171 code (makes no sense to me either). Try cleaning it first and then if you still get the codes replace it. It's about $80 from Rosenthal Nissan-Mazda www.mazda-parts-dealer.com.
Once you replace it, you'll need to have your ECM software version checked. There is a Nissan TSB about that process. If you do the replacement, take the car to the dealer to have the software checked. If you pay them to do the whole job, they should check it as part of the AFM replacement.

Soon after I bought my 97 with 157K, all 3 GD o2 sensors went dead one after another followed by the KS. I vote to replace them all.

I'd replace them all. I lost one o2 sensor recently (0v out, dead). It started as an intermittent, my car would occasionally run rich, idle slightly rough and my MPG's have dropped by 6-8MPG. Now that o2 is constantly dead. How about your MPG?
But I'd say the MAF is a likely prob too. I'd still say O2's first.

Are you on drugs? It's $390 on their website today...another ripoff...Call Dave B for all the OEM parts. I'm glad I did...
BTW, their website is too much like another one, so I think their is no diff in pricing from the website you mentioned to another one out there, unless the design was just a cookie cutter thing, but I doubt it. Too many of these parts sites seem to be alike and prob under the same ownership...

No drugs!! Check again...Part number is 22680-2Y001 and it's $78.93 on their site!!
You must have been smoking something and were looking at the old AFM. There is a new one available (as noted in the Nissan TSB).

I need my primary front o2 replaced.
Dealer Quoted $156.00
Dave B is $120-ish
But i can get a generic one off ebay for $100... as long as it the correct sensor it will work... RIGHT???
Any thoughts or experiances?

Go to www.ngk.com. They have OEM type O2 sensors at good prices.
My gas mileage is consistently 23 mpg with almost completely highway driving. Is that good or bad?
I ordered two 3 wire bosch universal o2 sensors from ebay - $25 each. For that price I might as well replace them. If that doesn't fix it I am going to do the MAF, though paying the dealer for a software upgrade doesn't sound fun.
