it's different between states, so your best bet is to check your local dmv. google is your friend! good luck. personally i haven't cleared out any lenses on my car, but i'm pretty sure dmv's here in nj would fail you for having non-amber turn signals.

ps: the fact that you searched and turned the forums upside down and still posted a new thread means you will face the wrath of some moderators and other senior members. hope you make it out alive.

I think it's really dependent on who you get for inspection. But at a minimum you better have your turn signals BLINK amber even if they are cleared.

I assume you are talking about the turn signal inside of the headlight on your '03. A buddy of mine cleared his and has a chrome bulb in there that blinks amber. That should keep you covered or at least give you a better shot.

you are wrong

auto lighting laws are FEDERAL and not state.
Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 108
are we talking about the blinkers in the headlights? or sidemarkers?

funny, i just googled that and i can't find anything relating to clear/amber turn signals. all it states is...

Standard No. 108 - Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment - Passenger Cars, Multipurpose Passenger Vehicles, Trucks, Buses, Trailers, (except pole trailers and trailer converter dollies), and Motorcycles (Effective 1-1-68 for vehicles 2,032 mrn (80 or more inches) in width and Effective 1-1-69 for all other vehicles)
This standard specifies requirements for original and replacement lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment. Its purpose is to reduce traffic crashes and deaths and injuries resulting from traffic crashes, by providing adequate illumination of the roadway, and by enhancing the conspicuity of motor vehicles on the public roads so that their presence is perceived and their signals understood, both in daylight and in darkness or other conditions of reduced visibility.

care to elaborate?

here is the whole thing http://fmvss108.tripod.com/fmvss108text.htm

from Table I--Required Motor Vehicle Lighting Equipment Other Than Headlamps
Reflex reflectors.................. 4 red; 2 amber
Side marker lamps.................. 2 red; 2 amber

FYI, on our car, the sidemarker is designed to meet the requirment by being the Reflex reflectors (reflector) and Side marker lamps (light).

meaning....front must light and reflect amber and rear must light and reflect red

you believe me yet?

should have taken my word for it

you can do what most people do. just get a chrome amber bulb. it looks silver and wont show when the blinker is off but will blink orange. or just do what i did and get an orange bulbs and use silver spray paint on it

if you have amber bulbs, you still see orange with the cleared HIDs.

with the chrome, its truly "cleared"

orange bulbs

chrome bulbs (still blink orange)

I did not pass my state inspection due to clear sidemarkers. I put the stocks back on right then and there, and passed.

your clear sidemarkers are not legal in any state. Doesn't matter what bulb you have in it. It MUST reflect orange/red.

some places may pass you, but that doesn't make it legal.

this is a FACT and it is UNDISPUTABLE.
