G35 Info Update.

This is kinda OT, but at the same time, I think it's relevant to those of us considering a new Altima or Maxima.

I recently recieved a letter from Infiniti stating that the G35 is confirmed to have "only" 255 HP.... slightly disappointing to say the least! I was expecting at least 280.

In addition, I have also been in contact with my local Infiniti dealership (Ray Catena in Edison, NJ). A representative there has infromed me that a 6-speed manual will be available when the car is released in early/mid-March.

I also requested information on pricing, options, packages, etc., but was unable to obtain that type of information from the dealer. If anyone has access to this type of info, any help would be nice.

I'll consider it only if it had the RB26DETT, but since it doesn't then... blah.

You're always going to want more power, and with the TT it's just a turn of a **** away (unless it's digital).

Yeah..its still RWD with 255hp. I also thought they were going to put 280hp on that sucker. I was thinking of getting it, but now I will reconsider.

The upcoming Infiniti G35 is the new Nissan Skyline sedan already released in Japan, and it's built on a new-designed advanced RWD platform. G35's hp rating should be 260bhp, it's designed to be a high-performance sports sedan to go head-to-head with Lexus IS300, BMW 3-series and Audi A6. In Fall 2003, all Nissan and Infiniti vehicles will be offered with factory Nismo upgrades, including performance and exterior styling. There will also be parts available for older Nissan/Infiniti models. With a base price of $30,000 this car is gonna be a blast...

-K.D.

Don't be DRIVEN by your car, get a NISSAN and DRIVE it!!!

Thanks for the update NJ I appreciate it! I'm seriously considering this car (6sp) for next spring/summer. 255HP is fine with me by then there will be plenty of mods for the 3.5L and will get the 270+ no prob. Any idea of the weight?

y2kevse's reference to the rb26dett was in regard to the japan only skyline gt-r, and he was really only joking i believe, but if you read the article posted from autoweek, youll see that the 3.5 may be getting turbocharged and sent to america, as the GT-R of course, but in several years from now

G35 info from Nissan

I just got the g35 teaser brochure from Nissan. The picture of the cabin looks kinda 280z-esque with the chrome buttons on the steering wheel, chrome cassette door (yea, still has a cassette), and amber lights. The Nav system appears to slide up from the top of the center dashboard, which looks kinda neat. The picture does show it will have a tiptronic tranny.

Here's some of the copy from the brochure:

"Optional Infiniti Nav Systemstores mapping data on a single DVD and offers Birdview... 6.5" color LCD screen unobtrusively retracts into the dash."

"...G35 is quiet the way you like it: not an isolation chamber, but a place where what you sense from the engine, exhaust, and suspension is music to your soul. Want music to your ears? Listen to this: this available Bose audio system, optimized for the G35's specific interior acoustics, pumps 200 watts of sound through seven speakers. Rock on."

No, seriously. I'm not making that up. They really did write "Rock on."

"Want to lighten your load? Look for aluminum. It's employed extensively in the race-inspired suspension -- subframes, upper and lower links, even axle housings...."

"Full vehicle aerodynamics that meticulously manage airflow. Race-inspired handling dynamics that untie each twist in the road. A 255-hp ride and high-speed stability of a long wheelbase."

Lame copy writing aside, the car looks really good on the outside. Front wheels are close to the front end. I'm not sure I like the retro-looking interior. The center dash is definitely uncluttered. My guess is A/C control settings will display in the Nav screen as there's no screen to show fan speed and mode.

If anyone's interested, I can see how the pics will come out in a scan.

G35 in AZ

I live in Arizona and on my way back from ASU yesterday I saw a white G35 on the freeway. It was raining like crazy so I didn't even notice it until I pulled up next to it in the stop and go traffic. It had the Detroit plates on it and I don't know what the heck it was doing on the freeway during rush hour. It looked sweet except for the back was kinda cheap looking. I thought the back of the concept car was sweet so I was kinda ****ed when I saw that they changed it.

Hey Phatty,

I too was considering eating ramen noddles for the next 6 months in order to buy the G35 but it doesn't look like it will offer a 6 speed. I also can't see why it's not getting the same mods as the 350Z, you would think for $35 large it should have more HP than the Max.

I'm getting conflicting reports on the 5/6-speed. I think most of us can agree that a sports sedan like the G35 needs to offer a manual transmission of some sort to be taken seriously (ahem, Lexus IS). I for one, don't really car whether I get a stick or an auto (more convenient for city/bumper-bumper driving, which is perhaps 40% of my time spent in my vehicle). Anyways, back to the topic...I was told by an Infiniti rep at Ray Catena (in Edison, NJ) that the G35 would have a manual transmission of some sort when introduced. I've also heard/read that it will initially only have an automatic transmission. Time will tell.

In regards to the above comment by BlackGums: yes it may only have the same engine and HP as the Max., but it's on a whole new platform (Nissan's "FM"). It's got a much improved suspension, nearly perfect 2/48 weight distribution, rear-wheel drive, and is much more luxurious than the Max.

As for me, I'm torn between a G35 (sport and functionality) or Z350 (pure adrenaline!)...
