Recommend a new battery with great CCA
Well my 5 year Nissan stock battery for my 2000 SE is dying on me. I'd turn the key, all the dash lights come on, then a clicking right behind the odometer-pretty loud. And the same sound right in between the engine block and MAF. I only had it for 18 months, damn it.... Anyway, took it to Autozone and they 'tested' it and it, saying it barley has enough amp to start the car. Once it starts its perfectly fine...heat/CD/headlights on at once, fine.
So need to get a battery, as it wouldn't start completly start the car twice in the last 24 hours. I live in New England, so I want a battery with high cold-cranking amps. Anyone have any ideas? I'd like to spend around/or less than $100.

I got a Die Hard Gold at Sears for like $100 bucks and with 700 CCAs, its great in the winter, given that I don't have to go through a NE winter. Even then, I'm sure 700 should be more than enough.

Interstate Batteries come to mind....but I have an Energizer that I bought at PepBoyz 1.5 years ago, after my OEM failed @ 4yrs. on the nose.
Mine is rated @ 750CA @ 32degf, and 600CCA (0 degf).
It did just fine last year.
I think I paid about $75-80.
Make sure the battery is TESTED and CHARGED before you leave the store with it. I went thru THREE batteries before finding one that took a full charge, and tested normally. I had to practically argue with the staff to test it - they insisted it was already charged!!

Just changed mine out (it was still working after 6 years, but didn't want to chance it any longer) with an Autozone Duralast (mid-grade). Consumer Reports has given them a good rating the last three years.

I don't think there's alot of difference in Batt. technology these days. This is a pretty tried & true device, and almost any decent brand will be ok. Just get the appropriate size (amps) and err on the side of MORE CCA if you live in a cold environment.
Oh - and don't get ripped-off!

Mine just died on me about 2 months ago, it was 7 years old. I replaced it with one from Walmart its rated at 900 CCA and coupled with my 160 amp alternator, my car is a power hog
EDIT::I don't have a system and never will, stock speakers are good enough in my opinion of course once you replace the HU that is

I had a die hard gold in my '99 maxima for over 5 1/2 years, never a problem. I live in Massachusetts, and last winter when the battery was about 5 yrs old, it started every morning with temps often below 0. Sold that car in April so it may very well still be going strong.

Interstate batteries are junk, i would say 1 in 4 batteries i replace at work are interstate. But most of the batteries I sell are to replace OEM batt's.
The mid grade battery from autozone has treated my car fine, i have a system also.
For 100 dollars you should be able to get an optima, get a red top (better warranty than yellow top and lower price).
Also regarding the testing and charging in store, just get a voltmeter and find the one w/ the highest volts on it. Supposedly running the tester on a new battery isnt good for its health. Im not sure on that though since i was never given a real reason why.

Werd, I just had to add that though because alot of people don't know that alot of batteries are still not maintenance free. The panasonic's in the '04 & '96's aren't

I'm not really sure what I have in my car, but all I know is that about a two years back, during the summer, my OEM battery was too weak to start the car, and my tester showed that it was the problem so I bought a battery from Costco. I figured it was slightly cheaper than buying one from Auto Zone or the like, and that if I ever have a problem they wouldn't think twice about taking it back.
It hasn't let me down yet, so I assume it has enough CCA's.

I'd get it if the price was right. Can't argue with a 3 year replacement warranty. Your battery is already going? I didn't change mine until after 60K and my OEM battery was still okay.

Its really for weight savings, for my non-existent track outings. LOL. Maybe one day I'll have time to auto-x and/or drag the car.

I've used Optimas for about 15 years. I typically get around 6-7 years of life out of them. Thats living in ND where it gets cold in the winter.
I think there are only about 4 or 5 different battery companies out there. But thats not to say they can't produce batteries to different specs for different retailers.

I just went ahead and bought the duralast gold battery for my 95 beater camry...cost $74 + tax....I knew the battery in my beater was going out real soon...it would barely hold a charge....I mean listening to the radio for few minutes would kill the batt...so I just went ahead and bought it....better safe than sorry
hopefully this battery lasts for awhile...I'm looking to keep this beater for another 5 years...

So....
I got a Advanced Auto Part titanium battery with 700CCA and 3 year outright replacement. BUT....
I had them test the battery. The highest the CCA got was 630 on the tester. Did I get ripped.... the guy said that its 'testing at room temperature, so its going to be off compared to testing it at 0 degrees F.
Is this just BullSh!t?
