I think you're better off w/ the proj's (of course I would say that lol). Everybody does the 5.5's, and while they DO look good, I wanted something you don't always see (of course that's my .02, but it seems you wanted the same thing)

Your projector setup should be plug-n-play once the actual retrofit is done. No splicing.

Aesthetics: 5.5>projector
Lighting/rarity (not a lot of people do it): projector>5.5

I fell for projector lighting after my 1st BMW (735i), and once you go projectors, you can't go back. Any car I've driven with reflector headlights makes me feel like I can barely see the road. The two exceptions have been a 2K Volvo S80 and my wife's 2K5 4Runner, which I both retro'd with HIR halogens. Not an option here & as I stated earlier, projectors are a must for me.

Of course, I wish it hadn't ended up so expensive and granted, I probably could have saved some dough if I had the patience to wait for some deals, but I was impatient and wanted them asap.

However, I don't have an ounce of regret and like what I'm seeing so far. When I'm done (with my current project as well as recovering from the expense) I'll probably do a retro on my OEM housings. Now, if only that replacement harness can get here yesterday...

About TRS Microcontroller Harnesses...Caviat Emptor!

- So after the big flop on TRS's microcontroller harness, I ordered one off ebay as a backup plan in case the replacement didn't work (since I don't feel like removing my stock halogens, rewiring again, installing projector headlights and undoing everything for the umpteenth time), and guess what...

The ebay harness I got is EXACTLY IDENTICAL TO THE TRS HARNESS! Same harness wiring, same microcontroller, identical stickers, EVERYTHING down to the last detail! What a disappointment and worse, what a ripoff - OMG!

I bought it from HIDDistributor on ebay for $20 & free shipping. TRS charged me $30 + $6.83 shipping (and they offer it on ebay for $35 + $9.41 shipping). I am now convinced all the other ebay harnesses that sell a lot cheaper are the same. The only reason I went with the more expensive one from HIDDistributor is because it was the only one that had the ability to state it fit the '01 Maxima.

I haven't received my "new style" harness yet, but now I'm wondering how much cheaper I could've found it elsewhere...

All done with my retrofit. Started a new thread for it, with build pics & output shots comparing stocks v. ebay projectors v. G37's. You can check it out here: http://forums.maxima.org/5th-generat...ml#post8237012

From your pics it looks like you went w/ the newer styled TRS harness, is that right?

Yes, that's what they agreed to send me and as you can see in my build thread, it is workable.

Okay cool. I'm going to try your idea to see if I can get my highs back (high 'beams' that is...not the...y'know...the other thing)
