4 cylinder Maxima (sort of)...
Saw other thread was closed in regards to comments on 4 cylinder Maxima, so figured I'd atleast give the OP benefit of the doubt...
Renault/Samsung SM5 (4th Gen Max/I30) w/SR20 4 cylinder

Also, if any of you puchased the eBay motor mounts for the 5.5 gen, they do state on the label Nissan Cefiro 2.0.
2002 Nissan Cefiro 2.0 (Same as 5.5 Gen Max/I35) w/2.0 4 cylinder engine (I think it's the VQ20)

So, I would venture to say that the item he was referring to might be marketed by overseas seller who did not research that US Maxima's do not have 4 cylinders.

I think the other poster was referring to 4 cylinders in general like Hondas, Subarus, maybe even Sentras, etc. Didn't think he was referring to Maximas, at least that is how I took it.
It's the way of the .org
Me personally, I would not mind a SR20'd A32, would work out pretty nicely since that motor has a hefty A/M and 4 bangers in FWD work a bit well modding wise than 6 cyls.
Will I ever do it? Who knows.... There is an SR20 here @ work for a few hunned bucks....

Have you ever heard of the Honda Accord? Toyota Camry? Mitsubishi Galant? Chevy Malibu? Dodge Stratus? Hyundai Sonata? Look them up... They're midsize family sedans that come...... with 4 cylinders *DUM DUM DUMMMMM*

Perhaps Nissan positioned the Altima to compete with these cars. Since it has 4cyl & 6cyl models. Leaving the Maxima as the flagship sedan 6cyl model. Just like the prior Toyota lineup of the Camry with 4cyl & 6cyl models and Cressida as the flagship sedan 6cyl model. Similar to the other above mentioned (4cyl/6cyl) model offerings.
