5 Speed shift points.

I have just had a new catback installed and I have noticed changes in the shift points. 1st Gear red @ 45, 2nd red @ 75,3rd red @ 105,4th not tested yet. Is this the normal redline shift points?? I don't remember them being that high is this typical for those with catback systems??

I think your spedo must be off then. You should only be able to go 38, 67, 98, 130 and 5th i beleive is 160. I have not gotten more than 1 mph over these casue i shift just before the limiter at 6700 prm's.

Strange that it only started doing this after the install.

I would have to agree with toylet902 because I didn't get near the fuel cutoff so my redline is similar to his + or - 5mph.

I dunno. I read it in a magazine that was the maximum speed in each gear and i have gone as high as i can and still never get above 38 or 39 in first, close to 70 in second, close to 100 in 3rd and i shifted at 6700 rpms at 130 mph in 4th. When i hit 153 mph i was at 6400 rpms.

That would be true if the car was stock but modified you have more horses to push troughout the RPM. I was just wondering if some other people got the same results.

what is the size of your wheel/tire combo? If you used wrong tires on the rim, that could get your odo off. Anyone had installed the same catback and dynoed the car? I'd love to redline 100mph in 3rd..

Somehow your speedometer has gotten messed up. It doesn't matter if you add 400hp, you'll still be limited by the gearing and rev limiter set at ~6600rpms. The gearing never changes regardless of power increases. The 4th gen Maxima has a redline of 6550rpms which is exactly like the 5th gens. Maximum mphs in each gear is 38mph 1st, 67mph 2nd, 97mph 3rd, ~130mph 4th, and 5th I don't know.

BTW, the tachometer is off by ~200-400rpms depending on gear according to my shiftlight. The lower the gear, the more the tachometer is off. Why does it do this? Because the tachometer is mechanical and doesn't "rev" up as fast as the motor does. I can do nearly 7000rpms in 1st even though the rev limiter is set at 6550. 4th and 5th are pretty accurate.

HAHA, me too. We have plenty of power at 130-135 to accelerate past that. All that power comes from having the right gearing to go that fast.
