2000 SE versus GXE manual shift

2000 SE versus GXE manual shift

I have a 2000 GXE and it's a manual shift. In looking for the car I found the manual option to be nearly impossible to find. Nissan states this was 'standard" with the automatic being the option. But it appears as if most everyone opted for the automatic (which is typical).

So being that the GXE is not the sport model, the SE, how many GXEs actually came with manual shift? Anyone have any actual production numbers?

As well, other than suspension and wheels, what differentiates the GXE from the SE?

I'm not too sure on the numbers though, I'm sure someone can get them for you though. I've been looking around and have found way more auto GXEs than manual GXEs. I think some aesthetics (rear spoiler and what not), and some small interior mods...not sure what else though.

Yes, someone here must be resourceful enough to know the numbers built. I'm curious. Manual shift GXEs must not be very common.

IIRC, they also made a few manual shift I30s. Those are pretty rare, too. Did they ever make manual shift I35s?

I come from the 3rd gen group so I am relatively new to 5th gen details.

IIRC, 5MT I30's were limited to only 1 or 2 years of the 4th gen model. No I35's were MT, but they did make an A33B Chassis I35 in 2004.

I tend to see a ratio that favors more manual GXE's vs manual SE's with respect to their AT counterparts.

Ugh, please lock this, this has been beaten to death as well.

GXE = base, sometimes they don't come with sunroof, spoiler, SE gauge cluster, tails, oil cooler. Stuff that makes an SE an SE essentially.

5-speed MANUAL TRANSMISSION is a rare find in 2000-2001 5th gens. I never heard of a "manual shift" ftmfl.

Ignore the .org d!ck riders that are smartasses

SE over GXE:

Suspension (springs, 23mm vs 22mm sway bar)
Taillights (smoked)
Double din radio
Spoiler
Optional 17" (came with 16" alloys)
Gauges
ECU top speed (GXE =120 VS 13/4x)
Exhaust tip
Smoked Emblem

Those are what I gathered. Also, I see a lot more SE trim's being standard that GXE over in the Northeast.

Jeezus Kryste I really wanted to know how many units were made of the GXE with the manual vs the auto.

From what I can see, stick shift GXEs must not be many in number.

The other tidbits would be cool to know, too.

However, some of you need to take some xanax, replying as if I've asked you to cut your nuts off or something. To say you've never heard of manual shift is absolutely stupid as you knew what I meant. The GXE is either manual or auto

Thank you, OOmanSE and 2 or 3 others who have thus far been cool about the issue.

It would be another reference just as knowing how many of anything was built. I like Maximas and stats on them. I like to know about the cars I like.

And this is a crime? or is stupid?

As well, as pointed out, this has never been asked before. So it is new and requires very specific knowledge. I cannot for the life of me find it on the internet. I am probably using the wrong search words.

Information of number of units built for Skyline GT-Rs is rather easily available, as are many, many other makes of cars.

It would, then, seem rather easy and a no-brainer to find Maxima build numbers, but I cannot find them.

A site like this ought to have this information as a reference. If it does, and I am unaware, then pardon my oversight. If it doesn't, then it should. This is supposed to be a resource for the Maxima enthusiast.

But no... so far most of what I am getting are sarcastic BS from extremely unhelpful members, nearly as bad as the juvenile jackasses on my350z.com.

You can add:
- body colour door handles / chrome trim delete.
- no third brake light on rear deck / parcel shelf. (included in spoiler).
- extra cross bracing in front of the radiator. (this may be urban legend)

Someone wants answer to general uninteresting question? Check.

NmexMax lays ridiculously specific info on us? Check.

Stardust pokes head in, makes completely useless, scathing post? Check.

Argument over specific terms breaks out? Check.

Soonerfan introduces the logic of how these threads are not needed? Check.

Soonerfan gives answer to question? Check.

I think that does it... this thread should be about complete, no?

Spoonfed? hardly! i've searched google and this forum and never found a definitive answer anywhere.

The best I could find here are a few very general posts that mention units built annually, which varies from around 90,000 to 100,000 units/year for the later model Maximas --and then the guesstimation that about 5% of this number is MT.

And that is a combined estimate for both GXE and SE. But I never found a chart, table, anything, to lead me to a production number of units built or how the models are divided up into quantities.

But your number sounds about right, actually, ie, the 2537 number. If we round numbers off for simplicity, we take 100,000 X .05 and that = 5000. Let's say out of 5000 MT Maximas annually, 1/2 of those are SE, the other 1/2 are GXE (if true I don't really know). But that brings us to about 2500 units for each.

And that's not many ....at all! Out of 100,000 of these mass-produced cars (which is quite a lot annually) --only 5000 are MT! Wow.

And thanks for eventually playing fair with me. I still don't know where you sourced your information from, but it sounds very accurate

Oh. I understand, no worries

Today I was coming out of the NOHO diner and walking back to my car and I saw one exactly the same color as mine. I was a bit surprised as this has been topical. It's that pewter color with the brown interior, not a color combo considered by many to be desirable, hip, cool, with it, sporty. Something grandma would choose.

So I see this 5th gen and it's the same, nearly, but is the SE version. So i go over to it and look inside. The interior was brown and tan and nearly the same.

This one was an automatic, but had the tell-tale white SE gauges on a black cluster and black steering wheel and steering column trim. Mine has black gauges, on a black cluster. But my steering column trim is brown, as is my steering wheel (plasti-rubber type, not the black leather SE type).

And the cloth seats of the SE had little hole patterns all over whereas mine is just plain cloth. So I thought, well, with the further exception of the exterior trim, wheels, and stiffer SE OEM suspension, i could actually live with keeping my 5th gen grandma looking, very sleeper, but change the suspension and steering column trim and wheel to SE spec, keeping the black gauges.

All of this streamed through my mind as I was inspecting this other 5th gen. And it came as a sort of coincidence as we have been recently on this topic, and then I see the exact same color 5th gen next to mine. Very interesting synchronicity.

Anyway, I'm changing the suspension no matter what. And the steering wheel. But I'm retaining the grandma understated, not-cool look because that will make it cool.

Tell me about it. I was hoping to find a 6 speed '02-03 but with the meter running on the rental (my car got totaled and once a car is a total loss, the other guy's insurance no longer had to cover my rental), I just couldn't justify a long search.

You can look across the country for one. That's how I found my S14. Found it in New York and I lived in LA. Flew out there, drove it back.

Wish I had that kind of time, but I don't. My old car was totaled about 3 weeks ago and the rental bill was rising.

Plus, we had a ton of rain this summer which really hurt my detailing business. Now that it is finally dry, I am absolutely swamped with work...which is good but leaves me with very little free time.
