Aftermarket Exhaust Rattle?

Hey guys, odd question:

About a month ago I installed Megan Racing catback on my car, I've been happy with the sound and fitment and everything, but I always had a clank going over speedbumps.

Originally I thought it was clanking against the cross member, that didn't seem to be the problem. I shrugged my shoulders and was like **** it, it's no big deal. However, lately it's just been getting to me, especially since I have to go over alot of speedbumps at school, and roads in trumbull are rought.

So tonight I got under my car and moved my pipe and stuff back and forth to see where the clank is coming from. Well, it's coming from right where the pipe goes over the rear exhaust. It just seems like the pipe is too large of diameter for the space it goes through, and when you move it, it clanks against the suspension pieces. I've already removed the heat shielf, but that didn't help.

So I'm wondering what suggestions do you guys have and if anyone has had the same problem. I was thinking either padding the place where its clanking against with some sort of high temp tape or tried to bend the hangers to restrict movement. Problem is, I tried to bend them by hand and that was unsuccesful.

So any ideas?

Thanks ahead of time.

Get it re-adjusted, that is the #2 problem with aftermarket exhausts for our cars.

Take it to the muffler shop. They will heat it up with a torch and bend it so it dont hit... I had to do mine 2 times before it stopped permanantly

I have one and it sounds good. No drone.

However, GE Tukrainian.....did you remove the heat shield because you heard a little rattling when you take off from a stop? I noticed that I hear a little rattling only when I take off from a stop and once I get into the higher RPMs....it stops. btw....I don't hear anything when i go over bumps.

all you have to do is get hose clamps and put them around your exhaust rubber bushings which will raise the height. Easy fix or you can get new rubber bushings that are solid rubber instead of our flimsy rubber bushings.

Got a site, I got it from that bay site A2Rinc.com

You can search the Bay there were a couple of vendors with them Blue or red I think..They seemed to have some different ones avail. also.

I got the 9mm and had to drill the holes a littel to get it over the hangers... But they are very hard/stiff and it stopped all the noise, especially on the long right hand turn ramps where it was that I was getting any noise in the end.

Upon instal of my Catman exhust I took down my cross memeber and put a couple of washers on, in addition I have a large SS screw clamp holding the cat/flex part up a little snug but not to much because I start to get unnecessary noise vibration in the car.

This is kind of off topic to this thread, but this seems to be a good place to ask. I am wanting to get a Cat back exhaust for my 01 maxima se and was hoping some of you had some recommendations on which ones to get. I do not want an overly loud or one that sounds too rice. thanks.

Hmm, try Cattman's thread in the Group Deal forum Or his website, is your friend.

Back on topic, I use 2.00$ hose clamps to get rid of my rattle.

I had that too, no idea what it was and drove me crazy for a long time but I ended up taking the crossmember off as a test and done, that was it. What's that crossmember for anyway? Not crucial for driveability is it?

Mine has been off for quite a while. Others are driving around like this without any adverse affects.

That's what the hose clamps are for, they limit the stretch factor.
