Acceleration Delay Issue

Acceleration Delay Issue

I was in a recent thread earlier today about hesitation and jerkiness during deceleration with a 5.5 gen/6spd and noticed the TSB posted for hesitation between 2000-3000 rpms on 6 speed maximas. Strangely enough this evening when driving home from work I encountered a "delay" in acceleration however it is not in the noted 2,000-3,000 rpm range, it is more like 4,000-5,000rpms so I am not sure if it could be the same issue that the TSB addresses (ECU flash and/or MAF replacement). I can check the part #'s on both the ECU and MAF tomorrow to see if they are related to the TSB in question if it seems reasonable that this behavior could be attributed to that. No SES light or other driveability issues at part throttle, only happens at WOT. At first I almost thought maybe the clutch was slipping but it's definitely not, I can go WOT at a slow speed in 5th or 6th and the rpm's do not climb like they would if it was slipping. It delays in the 4,000-5,000 rpm range but then once it gets above 5,000 or so the power kicks back in hard and smooth like it normally does through the entire rpm range. I plan on resetting the ecu tomorrow morning and going from there but has anyone else encountered this behavior?

Grrrrrrr! Even without any SES light to indicate an issue with the MAF, or is that just on it's way soon? Anything I can do to test (short of using another known good MAF)? Good news is I did get a 2 year powertrain warranty when I purchased the car, but as I remember seeing some model/year MAF's are more reliable than others?

They're fairly cheap (90$ IIRC). I got an extra one just in case that I found on here for 55$.

So I just warmed the car up to operating temperature and took it for a spin, no delay at all like I was experiencing yesterday...I checked the part # on the MAF and I do have the earliest "22680-6N200 (2002 MAF - Defective - Don't use aftermarket intake with this MAF)" as found in another thread on here from a few years ago. I am guessing its fairly common for the issue to pop up sporadically so I will keep an eye on it.

im experienceing the same thing except i have almost NO power and the engine just runs out of steam at around 4k. then makes a pretty wierd choking noise that sounds more metallic than anything else. this sound is right around 4000 rpm and i dont really try to push it any further but im pretty sure the engine just wont rev past 4k. the car has a really hard time accelerating anytime in any gear. i recentlyreplaced the MAF with an 01 and it ran until today (about 2 weeks later). also today was rainy and humid about 70+ degrees. i have no clue what this problem could be, no CEL and sometimes while driving down the road it wont rev past 2400 rpm. just dies. and when i pull over to restart it it "bounces" at 2400 rpm which as i understand is this engines "safety" when it gets an invalid signal from the MAF. can any one help me please, this is driving me nuts. i dont mean to stel the thread i was just hoping to maybe catch someone who has knowledge about this...

I bought the 03 AM600 MAF from DaveB. Paid around 380 something if I recall correctly.

Wow, why did you not get it for cheaper than that? An 01/02 unit would have worked just fine if you transferred the IAT, would have saved nearly 200$.

Yes and no. Sometimes it's required, sometimes it's not. Depends on the application.

Oh, I had an 01 MAF after my original one blew out. I dealt with the CEL, no biggie, and tried to transfer the thermistor, but it was fused on so well that it snapped off. Now that I have my emissions inspection in February, I figured it would be best to get the AM600. Still need the reprogramming.
