how the hell did that happen???

if you keep leather clean and conditioned, it will prevent it from cracking and then pealing like that

Check a junkyard for a matching leather seat cover and throw it on... Also with the new one, keep it cleaned and conditioned.

Yeah, they are getting pulled in about a week though for the winter months.

Not if the leather is crap like in my old 626.

Two sections of the driver's seat had really hard leather that ended up cracking and splitting but the rest of the seat and the other three looked mint. Under normal conditions though, keeping leather clean and conditioned is well worth the effort.

That is on odd place for the leather to rip though-but it is the same place that an 01 GLE I looked at had ripped too and one of the reasons I didn't buy that car. I'm a detailer, not an upholstery/interior repair tech.

the leather on mine is worn in the same place, but it just has some rub-through near the seams, not the whole panel like yours.

Then again, I have a 2000 with 135k miles....

Wow that sucks. Both my 02 with 118,000KM's show little to no wear, theres a few marks but i blame that on the previous owner. My 98 with 312,000KM's has very very minor wear, it kinda looks like its dirty but its the leather kinda wearing out right on the ridge. Very minor though, nothing near as bad as yours loll.

Perhaps it developed a rip or crack and progressively got worse? That or who ever owned it before wore a rough belt and just rubbed against it alot.
