Wow, and you're not even in his engineering program.

I guess I'm always making my point in a way that the person I'm trying to make a point to has to understand it is before they understand me, hence they might try and research a little on the subject.

point is, just because the engine isn't making peak power @ a certain RPM, doesn't mean you shouldn't rev it there. People w/ 4AT's and people who have any 4th gen experience both know that even if power drops off slightly(4-6%), you're still in good shape and setting yourself up for maximum power in your next gear.

The reason I mention 4AT's is because we all know how horrid the gear ratios are, so, in order to take full advantage, we need to make some decent power, AND be able to shift further (extended rev limiter) even though we may not be making max power/torque @ said rev limit. Oh yeah, the reason I mention 4th gens is because they are known to drop ~ 40 - 50 whp from 5200RPM-6500RPM, so any gain over that is looked at as a plus. And I obviously come from both those criteria.

My last 2 dyno sessions were a prime example of how misunderstood peak numbers are and even when they occur.

On my most previous dyno run, the car showed a peak hp @ 5900 RPM. Seems low in comparison to my run before that, where peak was @ 6300 RPM. Ok, cool, what's the assumption we come to? The 6300 RPM run is probably making better power than the 5900 RPM all run anywhere past 5900 RPM, all the way to 7100RPM rev limit, right?

The run that peaked @ 5900 made ~10 whp from 6500-7100RPM vs the run that peaked @ 6300

You see how that happens?

Dude, you are privileged to drive a very well known engine for having a nice torque deliver. You can shift your VQ virtually at any point because it delivers torque. there's no arguing that. The problem is when you get out of the VQ world and start dealing with peaky torque curves.

Get on a zetec engine for instance and try to race shifting at redline and you'll see how well it will perform.

Ok 'dude' but this isn't a zetec forum, I don't have any interest in a zetec forum/car/engine.

A dyno is more informative/definitive than an accelerometer, also, did I ever say you excluded the option of a dyno? Does it matter what I'm doing at work?
