oil change-change to synthetic?

I just hit 1000 miles on my 01 Max. Should I start using synthetic oil and its corresponding filter (i.e. Mobil 1) or just stick with quality oil. Is it worth the extra bucks for the synthetic stuff and is there that much of a difference in filters? Also what intervals do you recommend for regular oil changes after the first 1000 miles.
btw: the battery on my Maxima went bad two weeks after delivery, would not hold a charge, dealer replaced.

my .02

wait til your third change or 6000-10000 miles. nissan engines get stronger up to 5000 miles. switching to syn will make it take alot longer.

Wait till around 10K. Synthetic is so slick that piston rings have a hard time breaking in properly. After 10K DO IT and don't look back.

Reccomending an oil is like starting a religious war so I'm not gonna do it here!

That is the only filter I use on my car also. Not sure if that helps but the only other I would consider using would be a K&N.

Timne for an Oil Change

After the initial 7500 came up - I switched to Mobil 1 w/ mobil 1 filter. My buddy who owns a 300ZTT swears by the Nissan filter with his Mobil 1. After the first change I went to Royal Purple syn. I've got 23K now and it runs great, but them again, I probally couldn't tell the difference between Mobil 1 & Royal Purple. Just my 2 cents.

I just switched to Mobil 1 this past weekend. Car runs so smooth now. I think it's definately worth it. I have 27K on my car. Once you break in your car properly as others have already stated. Make the switch, you'll like it.

synthetic is good

Todays engines do not need much break in, but everyone has their own opinions on this. Many cars come with synthetic from the factory. For example Corvettes come with Mobil 1 from the start. Porsche, BMW and others also come with synthetic from day 1. I switched at 6K just to be safe.

As for the drain interval I'm changing at 9K (3K on the oil) and sending a sample to blackstone labs to see if I can extend the interval. I make a lot of short trips.

I'd go synthetic at 3000-5000 miles. (2nd or 3rd oil change).

Im a Mobil 1 fan. $17 and change for 5 quart jug at Walmart. Thats only about twice as much as good dino.

When I had a Honda Civic, the manual transmission took 5w30. I put in Mobil 1. At about 15degrees, normal dino oil felt like maple syrup. The Mobil 1 was ... normal.
