P1148 and P1168? What do you think?
I have an 01 AE maxima and it has not been so nice to me lately.
Threw a P0171 code. I replaced the spark plugs, two front o2 sensors and the MAF and had the dealer update the ECU. SES light went away for about 50 miles. Now it is throwing P1148 and P1168 - Closed Loop Control left/right.
I replaced the o2 sensors with universal sensors. Does it sound like these sensors aren't responding the way the ECU expects them to? Should I replace the o2 sensors with OEM?
I am not sure it is related, but in addition to the SES light the ABS, TCS, and SLIP lights are on. It seems unrelated, but I figured best to include it in this post. The ABS unit was throwing a code for the front two wheel speed sensors. Replaced those and it threw a code for the right rear. Replaced that and now it is throwing a code for the left rear (the only one I didn't change already).
Previous cars were always pretty easy to diagnose based off the ODB2 codes, but with this car I am playing an expensive game of "whack a mole".
What would you try next?

Nice post

I have that same combination of codes, (+ 2 more for the other sensor) but it's because my primary O2 sensors aren't connected.
Those codes point to the fact that the sensor is vital in closed loop control. So, you need to repalce that specific O2 sensor. You may have already done so. If that is the case, check manually how the sensor is looking. Check for any cracks/shorts/connector damage etc.
Sometimes when purchasing universal O2 sensors, the connector has to be modified in order to fit our connector (male/female. I would assume that this is not the case here, since you replaced both O2 sensors, and are only getting 1 code. So you have an 01AE, but is it cali spec (How many O2 sensors does it have total)?
As for the BS/TCS/Slip lights, it's an odd occurrence to have all the sensors go out in such sequential fashion, but if the code is pointing to it, I'd look into replacing it. By 'look into' means I would physically check the sensor for any damage or malfunction.debris etc, essentially anything that might cause a malfunction.
