Need a chipped key to unlock door?

My parents would like a spare key for their '01 I30 in case they accidentally lock the key in the car. Can they unlock the car doors with a copy cut from Sears even though it doesn't have a chip?

I have a feeling that they should be able to but I wanted to check here to find out, because when they've had copies made in the past, they wouldn't unlock the door. However, they may have just been poorly cut.

AFAIK there is no chip required to open the door on 5th gens. (unless the infinities are like lexus where you need both)

if you have AAA you can get a free copy of your car key. it's like a credit card sized key that folds out and you keep it in your wallet. doesn't need a chip in the key to open the doors.

Talking about the keys, I have never been able to open my trunk with the key. I have tried all three keys. It almost seems as if the wrong lock cylinder was installed at the factory.
