does anyone know the thread size for the 2000 Maxima shift ****?

I have a machinist here at work whom made a handle out of aluminum, he doesn't need it any more, and I think I can thread it and use it as a shift ****. Does anyone know what thread I would need to tap the hole in the aluminum ****?

Thanks,

Jim

Yes, and my guess is that it is metric, so I could just measure it, my guess is 12mm, that pretty standard Japanese, I think the WRX is M12 also. I have heard M12X1.25 which really doesn't make sense to me.

Yeah, but length in what? mm? Doesn't make sense. In inches? So I have to locate a metric bolt, but measure the length in inches?

I am a journeyman machinist, navy 4 yrs, private sector 9yrs.

12= nominal diameter
1.25= pitch
...PITCH IS THE DISTANCE IN mm FROM ANY ONE POINT ON A THREAD TO A CORRESPONDING POINT ON THE NEXT THREAD, WHEN MEASURED PARALLEL TO ITS AXIS.
