engine problems need some help

was accelerating on the parkway and the car felt like it lost some power ... sluggish .. not jerky
....so i step on the gas some more and i hear a pinging noise form the engine ...

2k max with 28k miles ... had the TSB on the solenoid and TCM replaced about 3 weeks
ago.

never had this happen before .. i only put 93 gas in since day one and mobile gas only ....

any insights? before i hit up the dealer? or this is one shot deal thing? maybe?

thanks

Have you changed the fuel filter? If not, have you played with the Mass Air Flow Sensor?

if a bad tank of gas ... would i have to go thru like 2 tanks to purge the system? also if its a coil would the dealer have a precise method of picking this up?

If you have bad gas, it could take a couple tanks. I received bad gasoline once on an older car and it took 3-4 tanks (can't remember specifically) to work it out.

Nissan have a specific way to diagnosis? NOT! There have been some users on this board that had to help Nissan service find the bad coils on their cars.....

Good Luck!

Sounds like a bad coil or O2-sensor.

I'm pretty sure if it was an 02-sensor you would have had a Check Engine Light, so I would bet it's a coil.

if it was a bad coil wouldnt the problem be there all the time? i can accelerate pretty good ...as this took place once so far ....

to educate me: how does a bad coil contribute to the knocking?

thanks again one and all !!!!

The coil provides spark to ignite the fuel.

What I think happens is that the bad coil takes extra time to discharge, thus igniting the fuel out of sequence. This causes the fuel to burn later, causing more heat in the cylinders, and thus extra heat eventually causes the fuel on the next combustion stroke to preignite which makes a "pinging" sound in our aluminum heads. The ECU hears this through the knock sensor and retards timing, which causes loss of power and more delay in the coil ignition.

There is many different ways the coils could cause problems by firing early/late or not at all. A Nissan tech "should" be able to eventually determine which coils are bad, however if it's intermittent it might be difficult to diagnosis.

Good luck!

Try resetting the ecu. I don't think that would help but who knows, other than that take it to the dealer to have it check out. Good luck.

I don't know. I would try and get if fixed ASAP.

You might want to check the intake like adman said. See if you have any leaks. This could cause pinging also.

Re: Re: Re: engine problems need some help

No, I orginally had the dealer look at it while I was test driving the new Alty. But, they charged me $80.00 because of my after-market Stillen Intake. Bastards...

But, my car was doing the same thing. The clamp broke and caused a gap in the bottom of the rubber gasket near the TB/intake. The car ran like crap and pinged like crazy when accelerating too. Couldn't figure out WTF. Looked everywhere myself. Couldn't hear anything sucking...other than my frigging Nissan paint of course!!!

Hope that helps...

What LAZY bastards!

They just plugged in to the consult port, didn't see any codes, and gave up. Intermittent problems are VERY time consuming and most dealers want to get you in/out ASAP, so they can make more money on non-warranty customers. Sorry, about your luck. Hopefully, you can find a better dealer.
