ABS Light... Help???
ABS Light... Help???
Ok my ABS light has been on for about 2 years now, but I'm not a huge fan of ABS so I've been just going without. I just took my car in to my mechanic (not the stealership) to get some other things worked on, so I figured I'd have them fix everything all at once including the ABS.
They replaced a speed sensor and a broken wire, but the light is still on. They went through everything they could think of including all the fuses, but they can't seem to get the light off. They said that the code reader they were using could not read the code for some reason, and they're pretty good with keeping things up to date.
Now I talked to a friend of mine that said he was reading something similar about the ABS light on his car, and he had to do something crazy to reset the computer... I believe it was turn the key to the 2nd position, open the door, hold the brake or pump the brakes for ?? seconds, close the door....etc etc, and that unhooking the battery will NOT work.
Has anybody else had this problem, or know what I should try??
I did try to search, but I couldn't find anything. If there is already a post I apologize for any inconvenience and would greatly appreciate the link.
Thanks in advance!

My ABS light has been on before from sensors and as soon as they were replaced the light went off...
The code scanner also had zero problems reading the ABS codes and this is over three years ago.
I would swing by the dealer and have them pull the code so you can stop the guess work.

Even if the mechanic can't pull the ABS codes he should still be able to reset the ECU with his code scanner. If he can't, then he has a pretty crappy code scanner and its time to take the car somewhere else. You could go to the dealer as Upstatemax suggested or I would even try Autozone. The dealer will probably charge you a diagnostic fee whereas Autozone will do it for free.
