weird problem...
weird problem...
i have a 2000 gle with 107k and i have had this problem for a few months now and i have already took it to nissan and they told me im crazy...its only happens on the first start of the day. ill start it up put it into reverse and she wants to die on me unless i give some gas. then until it warms up i have to hold it at around 1000rpm at red lights. it wont stall or try to stall after its warmed up or after any other time i start it that day. when i took it to nissan they told me theres no problems n it didnt stall for them. i dont kno how bc i left it for them over nite just so it would b cold for them in the morning. they tech told me he car was running rich and inturn it killed my cat. i know a few things about cars myself so i used an ocsilliscope on the O2 sensors and i actually saw it was comin out to b running lean...now tonite at work i pulled the MAF and IACV MAF was clean and i cleaned out were the IACV bolts in with sum 2+2 it was loaded with carbon buildup...that was my first step and i was wondering if anyone had any suggestions incase that doesnt work...ill know tomoro if that worked or not. thanx inn advance
Vacuum leak caused by faulty gasket at upper intake manifold.
When it warms up the parts expand and seal, hence no issues while warm.
But it is annoying and dangerous while the engine is cold, could stall at the wrong time or something. My dealer parts guy was well aware of the tendancy for the plastic intake on the DE-K to do this. I installed a new updated gasket on a 2000 Max which I was having the same exact issue. That cured the problem for good.

I had the exact same problem on my 2000 Maxima. After a few minutes (sometimes 8 to 10) engine would run mint. Plastic intake is a POS. Leak is very hard to locate. Vacuum leak caused by faulty gasket at upper intake manifold, new gasket was the answer.
i got no CEL and it wont do it when its idleing when i first start it. it will almost die put then pick up the idle. after cleaning out the IACV and MAF it didnt stall on me this morning or run like crap it actually ran good... but i dunno if it was just luck or not...ill have to check out and see if i can find a vacuum leak
The idle is fine during cold start-up because the IACV is functioning properly, raising the idle RPM to compensate for the cold condition. But when the engine warms up, the vacuum leak causes it to idle poorly.
sry i typed it wrong i meant to say was that when i first start it and let it sit and warm up it wont stall or anything but as soon as put it in a gear it wants to die...but this mornin it was 21 degrees out and she fired right up and ran fine...thats after cleaning the IACV and MAF
