Can I Upgrade My Stereo??

I've got a 2000 SE with the basic CD/stereo. Is there a way to upgrade it to the BOSE system without too much hassle? Nissan dealers seem to have no clue if this is possible. They usually say, "No". I would think that the correct wiring harnesses, etc. are already there.
I considered going to an aftermarket stereo but don't want to mess up the smooth lines of the existing stereo. How do people install aftermarket systems without it looking like an aftermarket?

Thanks,

Bill

Don't go with the Bose system! It's way too much money for what you are getting. I got a 2K GXE dash kit from Nissan so my Eclipse TV in my dash looks factory installed. I also bought the Nissan OEM pocket to go underneath the TV as well. I'm very impressed the way it turned out. If you decide on replacing your Nissan deck with an aftermarket one do NOT go with an aftermarket stereo kit. They look like $hit!! Go with the OEM parts for a better look. I wish I had pics of mine but no digital cam yet. Soon I hope...

ive got a 2k1 maxima gle, with bose...it sounds good to me, im very happy with it...but in answer to your question, no you cant easily upgrade to bose....bose stuff is killer priced, and for the price you can get whatever you want pretty much....anyway back to not being able to upgrade to bose, i cant explain it but there is a good explanation on www.bose.com go to common questions or somethin like that and its under there.

Yea! That was another question I asked Nissan of which they didn't know. Are there actually pre-amp outs of my (stock) stereo, or do I need to go from speaker outs?

Thanks,

Bill

if your gonna upgrade your stereo Id definitly just get a pioneer, kenwood, clarion, jvc or somthin along those lines..then swith out your paper factory speakers w/ some high quality after market speakers(ther are tons to choose from!). and if you do upgrade your reciever(the thing that plays cd's and radio ) you can easily add an amp and sub-woofer. in other words you can probly get a whole new system that will cost way less that the EXSPENSIVE Bose, which isnt really all that, that will probably sound even better.
