Truax SFC finally installed!!

Finally got he SFCs installed at ATX Motorsports in Bergenfield, NJ. For all the locals, great shop! They do everything from body to fabrication!

During the install they said one of the rails was bent. Probably from manufacturing after Truax did the tac weld, and when they went to weld everything else the welding pulls on the metal and thus was bent?

So with the rail straightened out, everything went on smooth. The installer also recommended that the center brace be welded to the factory brace for extra rigidity. I said why not since everything is still removable.

Pic below of what I'm talking about. Black piece is factory, gray primered piece is the Truax center brace..

First drive home = what everyone said, car feels much firmer over bumps, and as close to a BMW as you can get

I had heard that Truax was redesigning these to get around that issue you mentioned. Have you had these a while awaiting installation?

How much did they charge you? I've got a set still sitting around since when they first came out.

$240 total, with the extra bit of welding, priming the welds, and spraying the entire thing with rubberized undercoating.

Their # is 201-385-1003, ask for Narvin.

SFCs FTW

I just have the side rails, and not the cross member, but it still made a huge difference. Cost me <$100 to have a muffler shop weld it on. Since it wasn't a performance shop, I had to show the guy how to orient it and where to weld.

If I had to do it all over again with a stock car, this would be my first mod

Installs well? After the rail was straightened the installer even said the set was designed very well and everything fit perfect. If you take your set to a shop that cannot even straighten out a bar then I don't think you should be installing there

the difficult part about the installs is that the car's unibody rails aren't necessarily straight either. I know one of mine was slightly bent so they had to alter the truax rail to fit it better...

I wholeheartedly agree with you. I do all my car work.

But when it comes to welding I dont know that at all and cant do it. When I dont know how to do something, I become extra paranoid because I cant talk detailed enough to keep them from pulling something over on me.

I'm thinking about getting SFCs as well.. did it do anything for your cornering stability? how about the the car losing composure when hitting bumbs going around a bend? did it do anything for any interior squeaks, rattles, or other noises you may have had?

The car feels more stable going over bumps, doesn't shake around any more. Cornering? Don't feel much difference. Didn't have rattles to begin with so no improvement there.

I don't know if this observation makes sense, but driving around more last night, the car's "belly" feels heavier and more planted when making fast turns. Makes some sense to me as the SFCs added approx. 40lbs of weight.

Im considering these from the positive review. I'm on Tein SS coilovers which is impressive.. but i have the rattles and could always use a more solid, firm, ride.

n3985: did you get the full bracing (Side rails/crossmembers) for 325 or the other option for 225??

I bought the whole set, side rails and center brace for IIRC $290 shipped during a group buy. But now it's $245 shipped in the GB section

Me too, but think of it as helping create the initial demand. Thanks for the review.

I just need to get mine installed now after a year of them sitting in the garage.

considering...where I am with my set up...I mind as well ...just spend a fraction more for these. The only thing that held me back was the quoted install cost of variying shops...$300~$600..but the quote from n3985 especially with the shop doing the rubber UNDER COATING! ...makes me way more motivated...I am going to call CSE engineering to and see what they will quote...to compare.

You can buy a can of spray on rubberized coating for less than 10 bucks. Call around to your local muffler shops and find one that will charge $100-$200 for the install. (those are the prices out here, anyway)

I also recommend spening $5 and buying a can of primer, so you can primer all the rails before install. Then take remaining, prime the welds again. Followed lastly by rubber undercoating which as stated is only $5-10.

If memory serves, I think they are all primed when shipped out now... which is a pure bonus.

From looking at the pics OP, it seems like your car is on a 2-post lift. Is this correct?

from reading that it reads like the shop did all of the above..though I figured a shop typically wouldnt do that extra spray stuff.

if ur thinking about getting these read the reviews, i absolutelty love mine. if ur a suspension junkie you just have to have them hands down. perhaps not a word of difference, but deff noticable.

mine went on pretty easily, little bending but nothing drastic.
