would damage on an icelandic pearl cost more to fix??

some ****er hit me the other day, it's not that bad. the dude hit the side of my car with a ****ing go-kart, so now i have to go find some estimates on the damage.

i went today to shop and they quoted me for around 600 bones. they said it was more cause of the pearl paint. i believe them, but damn 600 dollars for the little dent this dude put in my car........

yes...

its two steps.. you paint the white, then come back with a pearl coat, or so I've been told.

I've heard pretty much the same thing. The paints are getting harder and harder to apply these days, especially these "custom" type colors. Yeh, cost is more. You shouldn't be paying for this one, anyway!

thats BS...

his insurance will pay even if he was driving some other car.. what do you think happens when you wreck a loaner? your ins still picks it up. heck, my ins will pay if I wreck a rental. They dont like to tell you that, but most will. if the person driving a borrowed was uninsured, then the car's owner insurance kicks in.

Been there.. done that. it sucks, the car owners insurance co. gets crappy about it, but they do have to pay.. it taught some Volvo owner not to let her deadbeat boyfriends drive her car he pulled out infront of me and totalled my car. They (driver/owner) acted I was SOL. hehe.. only took one call she didnt even report it yet to her INS. They paid out eventually...

Been there done that too!

Rentals are a "special case". By law they are covered by your insurance, however if your driving a friends car and you wreck it, it's HIS insurance that pays NOT yours unless the damage exceeds his policy they can come after yours for the remaining debt. At least in Arizona.

In this case, the guy was driving a go-kart, so I doubt his car insurance will be liable, but his homeowners insurance might be. Also, if he's under 18, his parents get the PROUD pleasure of footing the bill. I have been there done that too. At least in Arizona.

he's not under 18, and i doubt he has home-owners insurance. we're both going to college right now. he said he'll cover my deductible if the damage is a lot. but i don't really want to go to my insurance for this. i don't need another thing on my insurance record, my rates will go up.

damn, this is a *****.

Your best bet is Small Claims court, if he's not able/willing to pay for the body shop.

Otherwise, I'm not positive, but if you claim it on your insurance, you shouldn't be held liable, thus having your rates go up. I know a couple people who's cars got hit/backed into in a parking lot and the culprit was gone. Anyways, their insurance paid for it and it was not "their fault", but then again the insurance company can do whatever they want.

If you go this way, you'll have to pay the deductible.

My last Max was pearl white and it does cost more to have repaired (know from experience). I have a friend that owns a body shop and he said it is a two step process and a tough color to match correctly. I wasn't able to tell that it was repainted at all, but when I turned it in at the end of the lease, the inspector walked right up to the car and said "it was repainted on this fender?". I was actually pretty shocked. It didn't cost anything though because it was done correctly and still considered normal to have repaired damage on a leased car.

As for the repairs, I think you should make him pay. If he has to go to his parents or someone else to get the money, that shouldn't be your problem. Maybe he will be more careful next time...
