my poor 5th, just got hit

I was chatting with my friend on the internet. My windows was open, and I heard some plastic splitting noises on the road. I looked out the window and saw a car driving away next to my car. I ran downstairs and went out to see my if it's my car. Unfortunely, it was my car. I called the police, and she made a report for insurance.
Next week will be a busy week for me, and now, it will be busier. Sign...
Damages: rear bumper, sidemark, scratches on the rear quater panel.
Does anyone have experiences about this? This is the first car and first time in my life(21 years old). What's the process?

Thanks a lot.

I hate hit and runs. I'm glad I don't have a gun or I might be tempted to try shooting out someone's tires if they did that to me lol

Looks like a bumper cover some 1/4 panel straightening, corner marker lens, Possibily some rewiring for the corner marker light (may have been pulled out), and of course paint.

Note: if you have any paint defects (chips, scratches) anywhere else on the car, ask if you can prep them and have them take care of the areas with the leftover paint from the bumper and quarter panel. Also make sure the company does a good job with blending, or else it's going to be very visible that the car had gotten hit.

Personally...

1. Insurance Company gives you a quote
2. You inform Insurance Company that you want a second opinion
3. You take it to another shop of your choice (that you know does good work)
4. They give you a quote
5. You inform Insurance Company you wish to have this shop do the body work for you
6. Body shop doesn't pull or "repair" body parts, but replaces them as they should be in any accident, as they were perfectly fine before the accident.
7. Body shop's bill comes out 2x that of the original estimate and you get new parts..

Don't question the above, I did it and it works...

The Insurance Company of the person who hit me (when I was 18) quoted me $1900 for rear end damage. Ended up getting $4400 worth of repairs.

I heard the Insurance Adjuster tell the Body Shop owner to readjust my rear bumper (support) as it would be able to last a couple more years....

IMO take the extra effort to have a body shop of your choice do the work, not their shops...

wow, thx, buddy. You're my hero.
This is my first time, so I really don't know what to do.
If I don't say other damages in that hit except a bumper, will the insurance company still pay for them? like sidemarkers, scratches on the body?

The way I look at it and the way I went about it...

I got hit, my car was fine, on all body parts before the hit...

I got rear ended at 20 MPH by a Bronco 2 on my Civic...

My left quarter panel was bent to hell, my truck was smashed in etc etc etc....

the body shop I had do the work was on my side, since they knew the insurance company would low ball me, and they stood up for me... you need to find a good shop that takes pride in their work...

simply, they replaced both quarter panels (the right one had a small dent, but it was created from the accident), the trunk, my entire rear bumper support / cover etc. Resprayed the entire back-half of my car from quarter panels / roof back.

They won't replace things that were not involved in the accident.

Now if you had a dent in your quarter panel, and this crash obviously damaged your quarter panel, obviously a new quarter panel is in for repair.

along with the corner lights, if they were damaged, lights etc etc etc...

anything that was damaged in my opinion should be replaced.

A lot of people have this mentality of, well it wasn't new when you got in the accident so you should get junkyard parts.

The thing is, and how it worked out for me (and I plan to go to this shop for every problem I ever have in the future) was they replaced everything with new OEM parts, as it should be. Who cares what condition my parts were in before, it is not my fault in the least that this person hit me, there for I should not be skimmed out of parts, I should not get low quality because of someone elses mistake.

It took them 2 weeks to work on my car, and in the end I am glad that I went with another shop, the only down fall was a rental car...

Usually if you do not have the insurance company do the repairs they will not give you a rental car, or not for as long as they would if they did the work. They use that to get you to use them, but in the long run the 2 weeks for a rental was worth the brand new rear end my car got.

for the record, my mom got the rental car and I drove hers (as you can't get a rental car till you are 21ish?)

Nah, no biggie. Goes to the shop for a few days, you rent some minivan (lol) and she comes back good as new.

Get used to having to do things like this. Cars get hit, it's a way of life. Nothing to stress over though as long as you have insurance.

Attention ^^^^
It's spelled "good" not "gud."
Start spelling correctly and maybe your post will be taken seriously.

To the OP, sorry about the damage, but it's not a huge endeavor.
You should be back on your feet (wheels) in no time

It's been a week without my maxy, and I spent most of my time in front of my computer playing "Portal".

sorry guys, my car is still in the body shop due to lack of parts. it will be back till tuesday. I got a rental car Nissan Sentra. you know what, I like this little crappy car. when you drive a good car, you will think about a better car; when you have no car to drive, a crappy car will set you free.
this little has a 2.0 engine and a CVT gearbox, which is very smooth. it's gas pedal is very sensitive, so it feels fast, but if you really beat it, maxy just pulls harder. the car is very light, and it has firmer suspension, so turning feels better. maxy's stock suspension just feels like a boat. maxy's interior is much luxury, but this little dog has modern feathers like AUX-IN. this car has so much interior space comparing to maxy. not a bad car.

Wow they really need to learn how to drive!!! Sorry for the loss, but you can built it again NEW painted bumper FTW!

I agree, once you have a crappy car for a while you really appreciate it when you get the max back.
