I was wondering if anybody has bought an extended warranty for their car, from a 3rd party such as warranty direct. I feel like my transmission is going to crap out on me and figured why not get total protection for a 1000 dollars because a rebuild alone is going to set me back about 1500, but my question is that I have a cattman catback and was wondering if I would have to put my stock muffler back on or if they will not care about it, it does pass smog? and any info on buying aftermarket warranty is greatly appreciated.

 

If you read the agreements/conditions, it should be covered in there. Reed it thrice if you do choose tog et it.

 

the shop will not care about it as they submit the claim to the third party insurance. If you really are afraid go in and talk to the guy first and explain him and ask him if they would consider that to void your warranty.
However i would not worry cause the shop wants to make money from that insurance and will not blame anything on aftermarket.
Many times i even see dealers helping the community out

Not worth it, unless there is a breakdown. They will not cover anything until it actually quits working. Then they will ask proof of service performed to avoid breakdown. Its BS. I bought one and they will not cover the oil burning issue. Cause no mechanical breakdown has occured.

 

good question i boughy my warranty through a company called Wynns it cost about $1700 i ve had the car for almost 2 years. so a couple of days before my warranty expried i took my car in for the hell of it come to find out my car had leaking rack and pinion and CV boot parts and labor came to $2000 I lucked out.

Definitely a good investment. Especially if you have a high mileage car. Any part is bound to fail. Warranty Direct is among the best when it comes to extended warrranty coverage. Make sure it covers wear and tear plus mechanical breakdown.

 

realize that if you get this on a high mileage car, the cost will be a lot more expensive since they realize there are going to be problems soon. most times, just cheaper to pay for the repair.

 

Make sure you read the Terms & Conditions first. They may not cover pre-existing conditions and may require a waiting period from the time you purchase the warranty and the time you can file a claim.

 

I had a extended warranty on my vw jetta with wynns and they were really good company. My tranny went and they covered everything including a new clutch................

I was wondering about this too cause i got a card in the mail about my warranty expiring (never knew i had one) But i wanted to know as well if its worth it. Seems like its 50/50

I got 147,+ on my car.

 

Some companies just send these out to everyone based on registration data.

I can't remember who mine is through, and I just got the car 3 weeks ago. i figure it's one of those things - the best thing that could happen is you'll never need it. I usually am not a fan, but with parts for these cars (or any really) and labor being what it is one problem and the warranty has paid for itself.

 

now the extended warranties, do you pay for ther service and then seek reimbursement or is the services billed directly to the warranty company??

 

I think its a waste of money but then again...I fix my own car so I have no need to pay some one $1500 and up if my tranny goes or $2000 for a steering rack. I buy a part and install it my self. I had a bad seteering rack on a 98 max, went in to see how much it would cost to get it replaced (was lazy and didn't want to do it myself), recieved a quote of $2000, that got me moving real fast, two days later I was under my car replacing it myself, saved more than $1000.

Therefore, I never buy extended warranties for anything, not my car not my electronics nor my fridge or anything else. They are always overpriced and I figure if something does go terribly wrong, I would still be able to fix it myself and it'll be cheeper than the warranty costs.

If you can do the work yourself, then they definitely won't be worth it.

Even if you can't, most people won't get their money back. You've got to figure those warranties are profitable after giving the dealer a commission and paying a bunch of staff to market and administer the warranty.
