6th Gen Trans In 5.5th Gen?

Has this been done before? My transmission is...well...5.5th gened and I plan on getting a new transmission. Its cheaper than getting a new car, plus I figure I can get another 80-90k out of a new trans. The engine is good, no problems (knock on wood) but will the 6th gen 5 speed trans just bolt right up to the 5.5th gen? I know i will probably need to get new TCM but anything else?

Are you refering to the 5 speed auto or 6-speed manual? I know you said 5 speed but a lot of people call any manual transmission a 5-speed.

The manual tranny is a direct swap with no extra parts needed. I don't know about the auto.

Yea, sorry I was referring to the 5sp Auto. The 6sp manual would be nice, but from what I have heard that entails new TCM, new ECU, new axles, and stuff?

For what, the 5AT or the 6MT? For the 5AT (I don't believe anyone has done that particular swap yet) you would likely need an A34 ECU, TCM, possibly a new mount, who knows what else. Shifter assembly, cable and all that probably.

Ok so basically the 5AT is not going to happen. I know a few people have done the 4AT to 6MT swap. Anyone remember how much it cost?

Prices will be different for pretty much everyone. Price out a trans, trans mount, shifter + cables, flywheel, clutch, clutch pedal, master/slave, etc. Then, labor. Doing it yourself?

Is that the complete list of stuff to do the swap? I mean aside from interior stuff. No new front axle needed?

I see your text regarding 6sp being a direct bolt up to 5sp MT on 4h gen.
Have a trany guy that is searching for more info on this swap.
Can you by chance say where more info on this swap might be located.

Thank you.

i would recommend comparing upper tranny mounts as well as attachment points when it comes to swapping an auto from a different generation maxima.

I looked up 5th and 6th gen auto mounts on Rockauto. I believe the first 3 years of the 6th gen used a 5 speed auto than they went to CVT after that..
