don't bother with them, unless your state inspection station is not very picky. Here in MA, you will fail safety for those.

OEM tails look good anyways, no need for those aftermarkets.

I'd buy you OEM tails if you decide to go with aftermarket.

tails must light and REFLECT red

from CT law......which is a direct copy of FEDERAL DOT laws

Sec. 14-96d. Reflectors. (a) Each motor vehicle, trailer, semitrailer and pole trailer shall carry on the rear, either as a part of the tail lamps or separately, two or more red reflectors meeting the requirements of this section. Each motorcycle shall carry at least one such reflector.

(b) Each such reflector shall be mounted on the vehicle at a height of not less than fifteen inches nor more than sixty inches, and shall be of such size and characteristics and so mounted as to be visible at night from all distances within three hundred fifty feet to one hundred feet from such vehicle when directly in front of upper beams of head lamps.

(c) Failure to carry and mount reflectors as required in this section shall be an infraction.

You know what the funny thing is...theres 1 modded neon around here with complete clear tails, a modded integra with the same and a modded cavalier with the same...im friends with all of them and they've been pulled over for speeding numerous times, never once has a ct state cop wrote a ticket for the lights....as long as they are red when you apply the brakes it dont matter

according to federal auto safety laws, there must be a red reflector on the rear of your car. if you dont care about your safety, and the safety of others, thats on you.

if by "uptight" you mean someone who follows laws because i know they are there for a reason....

When i say uptight i mean someone that is there to criticie any little thing someone wants to do to their ride, simply put i was curious on a few things and wanted some opinions from normal people, not someone thats going to rant and rave about the laws.

if you mod your car within the law, i dont care

you dont have to listen to me
you dont have to agree with me

but dont disrespect me when i'm 100% correct

i never commented on the looks of them. i never said that they were ugly or ricey. i said they were illegal. i never disrespected you.....

yes they will. i assume you have a 00-01 so its a direct swap. for the 02-03 you also need the new harness.

while we are still on the taillight topic.... I have 2002 tails and I was wanting to know if anyone has opened them and blacked out the housing and painted the orange signal red???? like an "AE" headlight Mod. I would think you could cut it open..I have seen that someone has done it, but I wanted to know your opinions and how it could be done...

and MAXIMA STYLE, you could also just paint your GLE tails to look like the SE for like $20, instead of $90+

why not get the SE tails? or paint your clear surrounds black and paint the orange part red (spraying red through the bulb hole)

and yes, you can paint GLE tails.
these are the GLE tails i painted myself of my 00

Euro on a Japanese car ? You guys with all these tasteless mods need to take notes. Maxima does NOT need any improvements other than a LIP KIT in the front, side skirts that are MILD like the OEM ones or Stillens and cleared out front headlights and side marker lights. REAL JDM wheels like Volk, Advan, Work, SSR and drop and the car will look sexy.

My Maxima won best 5th gen award @ MAXUS last year simply because it was not over the top. It was sleek, sexy and served a purpose. Yet its only body modification was a lip kit from Stillen on the front.

While I do not care for some modifications, saying that a lip kit and cleared out headlights are the only improvements needed is simply an opinion.

Just wanted to point out that these regulations don't say that the tail lights need to reflect red, just that there be 2 red reflectors.

That said, I don't foresee anyone slapping red reflectors on their bumper just so that they can black out their taillights. Interesting, though.

correct, the tails dont need to reflect, but since there is nothing else on the rear of our cars to reflect....the tails have to.

for example, the Lexus RX has clear tails...but huge reflectors on the bumpers.
