2002 max pulls HARD!!!

well i was on my home from school and i was at a light, there were three lanes and i was in the left most lane, in the center lane was one of those huge ford econoline vans. well i didn't know, but on the right of the van, there was a new 2002 max(gle i think). well the light turned green and the max took off! it was like it came out of no where, so i hit gas to catch, but couldn't the guy was 2 car lengths in front of me and pulling. he then turned into the nissan dealership(i think he was test driving it). the whole way home i was thinking how nice a 6 speed 2k2 se would be, but i'm happy with my automagic, for now

Anyone know if the '02 6 speeds are TRUE 6 forward speeds? Or is it just really 5 speeds and they added the 6th gear for overdrive?

I think 6th gear is basically a crusing gear for better gas mileage. I am pretty sure if you want to get top speed, you leave it in 5th.

I'm trying to obtain the official gear ratios. Several have been posted, but I'm discounting those and waiting for the official specs from the sevice manual. Autoweek said the gears are reworked, not just a 2nd overdrive added on.

My brother-in-law got an auto 02 SE as a courtesy car when he dropped off his pathfinder for service recently. When I saw him in it I told him to drive my car and we swapped. I could feel a huge differance from my car so I had to try and race with him just to compare. From 100-140kph we were exactly equal. The '02 had about 250 pounds of extra flesh in it though. Later on my other brother-in-law was driving the '02 with the extra flesh and we dragged from a red light. We were neck and neck right up to about 70kph and shut down. Later on he burst my bubble and told me he wasn't completely flooring it because when he started the trip he floored it and almost lost control so he was scared to do that again. Dang! Anyway, regardless of how it compares to my car in a race, it sure felt a lot more powerful. I didn't expect the differance to be that noticeable.
