Mesh Advice

looking for something to border this home depot mod.

I got the idea from Irish44j, (THANKS IRISH) but cut everything myself when i was pissed, removed the body color trim panel, made a template and attached the (spray painted) gutter guard to the trim piece that screw in... i think this is the panel panel that is chrome on the gle and gxe?

Anyway, it's ROUGH around the edges and wondering if anyone had any decent suggestions.

I was thinking the rubber edging lip only.

Gluing the badge on was an after thought, i saw it sitting there on the ground, lonely and figured 'why not' it only took a miunte.

just get some rubber ending to go around it...will look better and protect the bumper from getting scrapped up.

and yes, center the badge (or remove it)

+1 on rubber around the mesh to protect the paint on the bumper from getting scratched.

badge removal FTW!

get that rubber door trim stuff from an auto parts store it works great

get the one with the picture of the truck, they give you 5 feet of it and thats more then enough to get around the grille, I know this cause thats what I used

Nice job with the grill man. But i'm with everyone else on the badge. Either center it or not have it at all. Looks kinda like the max has a mole or a nose ring. But hey its ur car. Giving you props on the grill though and definitely try to get some rubber on the ends.

question for you.... if you used gutter guard from home depot how did you get it to fit. that stuff is 36 inches by 6 inches wide. i have an 03 and mine needs to be at least 27 inches by 10 inches. take a close up pic so we can see how it is attached and such. Any one know of some type of place or hardware store that carries expanded or perforated metal. i have checked home depot and lowes but theirs are 24 by 12 inch. i need mine to have at least 4 more inches to make 28.

If you're really accurate with your cutting you can do it without any trim. I know this isn't exactly what you're doing but if you look at the edges there's no need for trim.
These are six different pieces inserted from the front and secured by thin wire. If you make a template out of cardboard first it helps when working with this type of material.

You might also try cutting it bigger and rolling the edges over.

Thanks for the props and advice, i will pick somethingthis weekend and post another pic depending on how I finish it

Yeah, tin snips.... this grill is temporary until i get some decent tin snips... I had a problem cutting with my dull-a$$ ones. But if you make a template from the trim piece you can cut the gutter guard with that... i considered wrapping it with the fiberglass doggy protection stuff meant to keep dogs from ripping screens. It's just thicker screen material that has the consistency of fabric but very strong. Looked REALLY cool wrapped around the metal gutter guard in the store, but i had already bought the paint and was anxious not to spend the extra 15 bucks

Badge.. yeah, it looks better in person., but i love it, because its different, i would hate to have it centered. .. I will probably change it later, but i'll most likely never center it... not absolute center anyway, Maybe top center.

Actually, i will probably top center the grey maxima badge from the trunk... anybody know if that is glued or riveted through the aluminum?

It was almost too short, it just fits height wise... i used the trim piece (brought it in the store) to estimate what size would work. The expanded metal was too short yeah, i was returning that when i bought the gutter guard. They sell one online here http://www.metalsdepot.com/products/...LimAcc=$LimAcc
but its pricey.. actually i found it for cheaper online.. like 35 bucks shipped.
this price is better

Think maybe the 02-03 grill is taller?

The badge on the trunk is held with adhesive and two clips that go through the trunk lid.

stillenmax, i think the 02 03 is a little taller. def want to see pics. props for diy. i can buy one easily to but knowing you did it and can do it is a feel good kinda thing. i like the design on A from yourhotcar. Wish i could find something locally such as at true value or some handyman store. With yourhotcar being 32 total and still needing to buy the material to achor it it may be just more worthwhile to get the grill tech which is already done.
