Water in the trunk

Yesterday my car was at the shop all day getting new shocks and springs installed. Today i discovered water in my spare tire well.. it was half full. Yesterday all day it rained pretty hard.. so could it be that mechanic left the car outside with an open trunk while working on back suspension? Or coud it be that water is getting to the trunk some other way? To be honest i haven't checked the spare tire all winter, so it could'v accumulater over past few months.
Any thoughts?

If it hasnt leaked before he probably left the trunk open.

the other thing i could think of.. last week i had my bumper repaired and repainted by a body shop. Maybe something wasn't sealed propertly when it was attached back?

I think the taillights need to come out to take off the rear bumper. So they might need to be resealed.

Not necessarily. A leak has to start at some point, right? Maybe it has been there for months. The same thing happened to me, and for all I knew it "hadn't leaked before." Even if the trunk is open, run off water is still directed around the trunk area. Do you really think someone would leave the trunk wide open in the rain for long enough to fill half the spare tire well?

Pull the carpeting out, grab a pitcher of water and go find where the leak is. Or, if you prefer to spend lots of money, take it in.
