Problem with the shifter

Anyone else having this issue.
On my 2003, sometime when i get in the car and try to take it out of park the shifter will not move, YES i am pressing the brake. Its like it is stuck. I have to turn the wheels right and left and then try to get it out of gear again.
Is this a common problem or am i the only one with it. Any help is useful.
thanks

Ive heard this is a problem in automatics before. When the car is cold and and its cold out. Has something to do with the tranny fluid your running. My royal purple tranny fluid seems to run smoother when the car is cold for some reason. I have a 5 speed though.

if you park on slanted surface its normal. just use pull the hand brake when you put it in park. it works for me everytime.

IIRC there is a switch that let's the car know you are pressing on the brake. It may be tired or just affected by cold weather. Might be called neutral safety switch.

Hope this helps a little bit...some cars have an override (you pop a cover and press the button which allows the shifter to move freely).
