NISSAN brings NISMO PARTS to the U.S.
Nissan to Sell NISMO High-Performance Parts For Nissan and Infiniti Vehicles Beginning in Fall 2002
LAS VEGAS, (October 31, 2001) - Nissan North America, Inc. (NNA) today announced it will produce and market NISMO high-performance aftermarket parts for Nissan and Infiniti vehicles in the U.S. market. NISMO parts, which will be available next fall, cater to Nissan enthusiasts and will offer a factory warranty.
"We're excited to be joining one of the fastest growing niches in the specialty automotive equipment industry," said Jed Connell, senior vice president, Sales and Marketing. "NISMO has nearly 20 years of experience developing and producing high-performance parts and accessories and shares Nissan and Infiniti's uncompromising commitment to quality."
Increasing popularity in manufacturer-backed performance parts and the requests of Nissan and Infiniti enthusiasts led the way for NISMO to enter into the U.S. market. NISMO originated in Japan in 1984 and has established itself as the premiere supplier of high-performance aftermarket parts and accessories for Nissan vehicles in Japan.
"The name NISMO stands for NISsan MOtorsports - a fitting name since NISMO parts will offer cutting-edge performance," said Connelly.
NISMO branded parts will cover three areas - NISMO Performance Parts, designed for Nissan vehicles; Infiniti R-Spec performance parts designed for Infiniti vehicles; and NISMO racing parts designed for off-road/race-track use. NISMO also will offer performance parts for current and previous model Nissan and Infiniti vehicles, including the Sentra SE-R and the forthcoming Infinti G35 and Nissan 350Z.
In North America, Nissan's operations include automotive styling, engineering, consumer and corporate financing, sales and marketing, distribution and manufacturing. More information on Nissan in North America and the complete line of Nissan and Infiniti vehicles can be found online at www.nissandriven.com and www.infiniti.com.

hehehehe.... bye bye $tillen.....
I wonder if this means that Nissan dealers will stop giving people **** over aftermarket mods. I know that most Honda dealers don't even care about mods and will do warranty work regardless.
On the flip-side, I hope this doesn't mean that all we are going to get is NISMO seat belt covers....

I hope this doesn't mark the beginning of the "Large Window Sticker" Era in Nissan's history books or the beginning of the "Nissan Drivers are Riceboys Too" Era.
Hopefully NISMO will earn the respect of DINAN and AMG in the US. I will look forward to my 2004 NISMO-branded Nissan or Infiniti XXXXX.

this is good news folks...domestic aftermarket manufacturers should have some competiton..and therefore lower their high prices...modding Maxima should become less expensive. Someone had to do it.

Update: NISMO's US launch (long)
Just spoke with Dean Case whose name is on the official NISMO announcement posted in this thread and dated 10/31/01. Dean said that there will be no NISMO products available for sale in the "near term" (Read: Next few months) and that the next official announcement on NISMO coming to the US will be made "The first week of November." Dean said this communication is meant to coincide with the SEMA show. The intent to start selling NISMO products through US dealers in early '03.
When asked about the delay versus the original stated launch of "Fall 2002", Dean said that they didn't want to kick this off by "Trickling it through a few dealers." Sounds as if they need more time to get the dealership infrastructure lined up.
I asked if consumers would be able to find this communication at nissannews.com when it's posted, and Dean chuckled. He said that nissannews was not meant to be a consumer-oriented site, but he knows that's where "intelligent consumers" go and that's why they don't password protect the site. I told him he'd be doing himself a favor by posting this communication on maxima.org as well since there are a disproportionately large number of "intelligent consumers" here.

Oh yay, Nismo is coming to the US! Now I can watch Z, G35, and Sentra owners buy all kinds of quality, factory warranty parts. What makes you guys think the Max will get anything from Nismo? They've never made so much as a sticker for the Cefiro, so why should they change thier minds when they come to the US?
The best Max owners can hope for is a set of Nismo rims. And a big credit bill from it too.

I don't know why ppl on this forum are so excited about if you dont' own either Z, Sentra, G35..etc...
No point getting your hopes up guys. Nismo will provide aftermarket parts for the 350Z, SE-R, Altima, Xterra, and Frontier.
Nothing for the Maxima.
I got this info straight out of the July/August issue of Sales Talk (Nissan salesperson magazine) that one of the dealers lent me.
If you get ahold of one, turn to page 11, bottom page where it says "Z and Nismo".
"In it's initial launch, Nissan will offer NISMO parts for Sentra SE-R and 350Z. Soon to follow will be Altima, Xterra, and Frontier."
I'm about ready to chuck this biotch (Maxima) and get me a Touring Model 350Z with all the trimmmings minus leather. Nismo, take me to the promised land!

Mainstream = Altima
Specialized = 350Z
Maxima = Well, ****, it's gonna be redesigned soon anyhow...screw it.
That's us in a nutshell. Major props to all the companies that probably lost money on developing anything for a run of cars that is only 3 years with 2 different engines when they could have made more $$ on any of the other cars out there.
At least we're unique...I like that..how many 5th gens do you really see on the road? Oh and screw the altima, what a piece-o-crap max wannabe.
