New MAF requires ECM reprogramming?
I have a 2000 Maxima with about 70k miles on it. Lately it's been down on power and develeped a hesitation around 3.3K rpms. A dyno run showed it was running lean above that point (almost to 17 a/f.)
No codes. Stock engine (+K&N.) Calispec. Since the one of the upstream o2 sensors was relatively new, I figured it probably wasn't an o2 sensor problem since there was no code.
I decided to pick up a MAF since I knew it was likely going to be needed soon no matter what. My local Nissan shop had them in stock but it came with this warning in the box:
"This unit requires special ECM reprogramming of the vehicle. Refer to TSB NTB01-036/ITB01-029 for the special ECM ID code that must be entered in the ASIST ECM Data screen to download the correct data."
I thought the MAF should be a direct replacement. I thought I would just need to reset the ECM by disconnecting the battery. Is that not the case?
Any advice on the subject would be helpful. I don't want to put this in, and find the car undrivable without a trip to nissan (my local dealer has a terrible service reputation.)

I've been lurking hear for a long time and MAF seems like such a common issue that it was worth a shot. If you have other suggestions, I would be happy to hear them. Nothing else showed up that seemed relevant to my problem when I searched.

i meant...you could have found the MAF for cheaper and you dont need to reprogram anything

I didn't think anything needed to be programmed, I was just paranoid after seeing that warning in the box. Thanks for the info.

New MAF is in and the car is pulling like a champ!
The hesitation is gone and all the missing mid and top end power is back. Happy days!
It's funny how when power goes away slowly, you don't realize just how bad it's getting.
In case you're interested, here is the dyno before the new MAF. I'll try to swing by the shop and get a new one for an after shot.
