You might be able to verify it by creating a load on both side using two people each with a long 2x4 to create drag on the wheels.

That said, I'm pretty sure I damaged the HLSD in my car by doing donuts in reverse on a wet parking for a somewhat lengthy period of time. This was many years ago when I was younger and dumber. I plan to locate myself a RS6F51H from a junkyard and swap transmissions when I eventually have to replace my clutch.
Interesting, haven't actually tried it myself on an HLSD trans, just assumed.

Why do you think you damaged the diff? You can't really damage these things without breaking something, unlike the VLSD units.

Because it drove like crap in snow after that whereas it used to be quite solid. I get peg-leg wheelspin all the time where originally I didn't.

Can someone else prove that RS6F51H is the HLSD vin code for 5.5 gens? I don't want to advertise the car as being equipped with HLSD if it really isnt.
I'm not doubting pmohr's claim, I just want substantiated evidence.

Thanks

Yes, it is. Have you searched around? It's clearly defined all over the org.

That's what the H means, HLSD (A for open diff, V for VLSD).

And it's not a VIN code, it's a trans code.

If you want 'substantiated' evidence, call NNA.

My panties bunched up? What the hell does that mean?

Point being, had you searched, you would've found your answer.

Talkin about you taking things personally, a little sarcasm.
As I said I didn't doubt you just wanted get some more evidence.

I'm not 12 anymore so I'm done playing these little pointless "reply" games. That seems to be a favorite for the majority of maxima.org members. Everyone is the smartest person on here and but no one can ever give you a straight answer...

Enjoy your day!

Yes, because 'getting your panties in a bunch' isn't childish

Didn't take anything personally, not sure what you're getting at there.

I just bought a 2001 20th Anniv Ed. SE! It's my first Max and I love it. Alternator was bad so I paid $60 having that rebuilt and put it back in same day, and threw new rubber all the way around for $320 even, including mount/balance. There are still some things I need to do to it to get it the way i like it, and it's too cold to do those now.

If car is clean and in good mechanical shape, that sounds pretty fair.

This isn't the classifieds. Search, check junkyards, check for people parting out cars.

That or just spend the $2k and get a new one from Dave B.

Sh*** might be a bit late for this post but hey.......
I bought mine for 5 595$ same mileage but 2000 SE auto very clean... so for that price it "seems" like a very fare deal. I wouldn't only get it inspected; ask the guy how long he's had it for and where he purshased it.

i replaced just about eveything in my 00' maxima, i love it but its expensive.. it all depends on how you drive it though i bought mine with 99,000 miles from an older woman and then when i got it i beat on it for the first year, no car is going to adjust well to that.

not sure if 5.5 gens have this issue but a lot of 5 gens experience late shifting b/w the 1-2 and/or 2-3 gear shifts....look out for that. TSBs say to change the solenoid pack and/or the TCM to fix this issue which can def break your wallet.....
Accelerate really slow (around 1500 rpms) and listen/feel for the late 1st gear shift.....then accelerate fast from a dead stop and u might feel the same thing again it it exists..
if your'e buying a manual then u can just igone what i just said above
the turning radius on these cars is quite large so have a feel for that too when u test drive...

My dad just put down a $100 deposit on a 00 Max SE with 77000 miles on it. It rides nice and smooth. Looked under it, and there was rust on the B-pipe, but nothing too bad. The price of the car was $8200. What do you guys think? It was from a local shop that sells cars.

That seems a little high for a 2000. I just got my 2002 SE with 79000 miles on it for under $7900 out the door.

00-01 and 02-03 motor differences?

Im a 4th genner, AKA Bruce Jenner. Im looking to buy a 5th gen 6-speed, but I see that the 00-01 have about 225 HP's, but the 02-03 have 255, WTH?! I thought they were the exact same engine?

Also, if they are the same engine, is there a way to get the 225 to 255,but Without any aftermarket mods, just parts from a 02-03 engine?

This will probably make or break on which year ill get....

oh yeah, the 02-03 are the years where the oil burning is more prevelant right?

The 2000 and 2001 have the VQ30 and the 2002 and 2003 have the VQ35. So there is an extra .5 liter displacement which explains the extra horsepower.

00-01s have a 3.0 liter engine
02-03s (and onwards) have a 3.5 liter engine

for your 2nd question: No (unless you do an entire engine swap)

for your third qs: yup. You have to be careful when you buy one. Most ppl here say its not that big of a deal but its definitely not normal

im not sure about any quick way to check if it does burn oil.. the only way i know is leaving it parked and checking underneath a few hours later.. but i would take it to a mechanic you trust just to be sure.. and which mods do you have in plan? (if you're worried about the oil burning, i would research a little around on the forums and you'll be more learned about the situation) and before you get flamed on.. try using "search" before making a new thread cuz A LOT of answers have been posted before and everyone gets mad answering it again lol

I have a 2003 SE and I love this car. I bought mine three years ago and it still runs strong. I have all the problems that everyone has said like hard to shift in first and second and third gear grinding, burning oil but not much. I get comments on my car every where I go by everyone, even people with better cars then me. If you can find a good deal I would jump on it.
