Dead Pedal
Okay, another question:
My 2001 Black GXE Maxima manual did not come with a "dead" pedal - just some patchy-plastic crap on the carpet. I'm interested in installing a dead pedal there, and I would like to know if anyone has any experience with that or if they know how difficult it would be to do myself. (I'm inexperienced at working on cars myself).
Thanks,
Mike

The dead pedal is that slab of plastic or rubber most car companies place to the left of the brake pedal on automatics and to the left of the clutch pedal on manuals. It gives you a place to rest your left foot without wearing the floormats or carpet. For some reason, Nissan figures they can get away with substituting this with a very thin piece of vinyl or rubber that seems to be part of the carpet. I checked with my local Nissan dealership, and neither Nissan nor Stillen offer something similar to the AE set. The parts counter had a few Razo pedals that could be used, but they didn't really match the original AE stuff. Shouldn't be a big deal to install.

Installed Razo pedal in my A.E.
Here is a picture of the Razo dead pedal I installed in my A.E. The metal surface of the pedal matched the A.E. pedals pretty well. The small black dots are 6 phillps head screws that secure to pedal to the carpet.
Not so fast....
I would be careful not to install a dead petal that’s any higher than what’s already there, because your left leg would have to ride higher, a real annoyance over long trips. My wife’s Sable, for example, has the front wheel well so high that I must bend my left leg into an uncomfortable position. My Max allows the left leg to stretch out more.
You can get a dead pedal similar to Jeff K's at the following:
