i sold my 96 and recently bought a 2k2 6 speed and it makes a ticking noise that increase in speed as i press in the throttle. its coming from the back of the engine(firewall). im still getting 20mpg city, no check engine lights, and it doesnt feel any slower. is this a normal noise for the 3.5? theres a tsb for the fuel damper, but it sounds like a lifter with too much clearance to me,arent these self adjusting? anyone had this sort of problem? also noticed i consumed about 1.5 quarts of oil since my last oil change (2500miles ago). any helps appreicated

 

Swapped plugs recently? One might be loose or beginning to foul...

 

just got the car 2 months ago, all ive done is an oil change.

could be a piston slap since it has a gap between piston and piston wall. also can explain the oil burning.
