Trying to "perfect" my exhaust note...
Well with the stock catback and cattman headers/ypipe/fastcat, the tone is just quiet enough that it sounds wimpy instead of sporty... like a drowned out g35 exhaust note.
I know our stock muffler is a 5 chamber monster, and changing it would be the easiest way to control sound. So I'm going to start looking around for some slightly sportier stock mufflers off other vehicles that I can pick up for cheap at a junkyard and test.
Has anybody done this? Any advice on what to look for? My goal is a low/sporty sounding exhaust like the newer stock G35s sound. Growl without drone.

Why don't you try to change out the resonator that might just put you over the top with elevating noise levels. But my best bet for a stock muffler would be a G35 Sedan, Altima SE-R or a Stock Evo / STI.

Also you you could go Euro flair and see if you could find some Jaquar XK coupe muffler to put on. I know that the guys at jag actually engineer the sound that comes out of their performance car mufflers so that might give you a cool but street legal sound.

a good aftermarket b-pipe will deepen the sound because of the resonator.
and you do realize that if you simply get a muffler of a car you like the sound of, it wont sound the same on a maxima. the muffler isnt the only thing that effects the sound. the G35 sounds isnt just the muffler.

You seem to always feel the need to talk down to people. why?

I don't think you read my post. I said that I was trying to recreate a G35-like tone, not that a G35 muffler would automatically sound the same on my car. That is why I asked for opinions on what sounds good on the max, instead of going out and buying a g35 muffler with false hopes.

I guess I should not have insinuated that changing the muffler would get you the same sound. I was just trying to convey that since these companies actually spend time making sure their mufflers create a certain sound they might have a pleasantly nice sound on a max. Most importantly they would not have a after market sound that I have come to hate with all the fart cans they have down here in Florida. (And yes Cattman sounds after market with all the backfiring type sounds it gives off after a hard rev.)

I'm not saying that you did. My question was, "did you not like the sound of that setup" assuming that you have heard it from a posted online streaming video or in person. I was suggesting that I thought that sounded the best paired with the headers you have was all.

Personally, I like the way this sounds: http://s4.photobucket.com/albums/y12...t=CIMG0429.flv

I got headers, test pipe , gutted bpipe and a 5.5 muffler i like the sound but i want to get a Cattman/ megan b pipe which will resonate the bees in the can noise from the test pipe.
I can make a clip if needed.

I don't have any of that and don't want it. I only upgrade stuff on my car when it wears out, thankfully the exhaust was trash at 45K. When my struts go I'll get Illumina's and Eibach's Tires are now shot so it's time for Eagle F1 GS-D3's.
Actually I'll prolly do spacers when I do tune up, it's no harder. You actually replaced the intake?
