Stock muffler is nice and quiet like I like it.

The only aftermarket muffler I would consider would be a turbo-style muffler like the Walker Quiet Flow or a Sonic Turbo muffler. Straight-thru designs may make a bit more power, but most have a raspy sound and are just too loud.

If quiet is what you are after I can't deny the stock muffler, I've always liked a bit louder exhaust and unlike a lot of people I really don't even mind a slightly raspy V6 sound.

But there is a limit for sound. I had to tone mine down when all I had was CMG1 headers, straight pipe, CM-b, stock rear. Sounded fine before the tets pipe, then after it sounded like caca, IMO. I may have taken a small hit on performance in order to tone it down a bit, but for the peace & quiet, it was worth it.

I take several road trips a year and a loud exhaust really gets to you a few hundred miles in, especially when you have another 600 to go.

Now, if my car sounded like this...

Pretty much the meanest sound I've heard this side of a nitro funny/fuel car.

felt better as in the fitment issues with the megan caused my car to make vibration noises and didn't fit right.

A lot of people not feeling you on your exhaust choice however I say it looks great. I've used Megan products on my Honda's and I love them Haven't tried any megan products on my maxima yet but your exhaust looks tempting. Good luck to your new exhaust.

What were the fitment issues?

right where the first bend in the b-pipe is, one of the supports would rest against the exhaust and vibrate the whole car and when I would go over bumps it would smack off the supports hard.

the axle back section just completely rested on the rear beam, I replaced all the rubber supports and there was no change

ever since i put the frankencar on it fixed all of these problems. Those exhaust are mass produced and I am willing to bet those welds are not all exactly in the same spot and I got one of the bad ones.

No that's not what I meant, I have heard videos of your stock muffler'd setup and I just don't think it sounds good....It's merely an opinion. Modding for sound or looks, well honestly on a street car where maximum performance out of every modification is not even remotely necessary, I'll take a sound that I like even if it means I am taking a few hp loss...I'll never notice anyways.

Nmex I have heard yours, I do like the sound better than Sooner's but still in general don't really like the tinny sound of the stock muffler with exhaust modifications before the muffler.

There's a 6th gen soundclip that I really like, but he hasn't got headers, so

I would agree. From what I have researched on forum and around Frankencar is the best sound and does give some hp. However, they have been out of business forever and it's really hard to find good used one on the org. Every time I see one go up 4sale it's gone asap. So, mentioning something that is almost impossible to find does not really help. Megan and Catman are the only ones really selling a setup for our cars that is not a garbage can on the back. So the question should be which one?

I've been searching........

My OE muffler just took a dump today. The sound is annoying as hell.

I'm looking at the Megan web site. Did you install the OE-RS? How does it sound? I'm looking, but may go with stock - I drive too much for work and a long droning sound would suck.

Anyone else that may have advice on which exhaust to get to keep the sound down and possibly increase performance would be helpful - without me starting a thread.....I have an 01.

Never liked the Frankencar muffler. Always had my doubts about it, but don't remember seeing a dyno. I do remember someone switching from a FC to straight through and making quite a bit more HP. But that was in conjuction with a couple of other changes.

As far as sound, HS headers, Cattman FastCat and Cattman catback sounds beautiful to me, especially at WOT.

mine fit perfectly and you can barely hear it. the low end was significantly lost, but top end is a little better. thats the only thing i dont like about the exhaust, the torque is not there when driving around town.

I'd look into something like a Walker Quiet Flow, or a similarly designed "tubro" style muffler. They will out flow the stock muffler without too much of a noise increase. I had a Magnaflow muffler and 18" resonator on an Accord I used to have and it droned constantly at speed. I switched to a Vortec turbo muffler and at freeway speeds the engine was nearly silent. Deeper sound but not too loud at idle. Sounded pretty good at full throttle, no rasp...and my CAI was actually louder! I noticed no loss in performance either vs the Magnaflow.

You also might want to look into the Frankencar B-pipe like Sooner suggests. Between that and a better flowing turbo muffler you should pick up a few HP without making your car too loud.

Thanks for your input - I appreciate it. I was hoping not to get flamed for asking the same questions. I haven't been on here in a couple years.

Anyway, after going to Napa and looking at there $167.00, weld splattered, dented special, I jumped the gun and purchased a cattman. Brian was very helpful and he was less expensive than the OEM I was quoted through Nissan.

I just looked under the car last night, I may be in for a b-pipe as well . I may stay stock because you don't see it, and with my warpspeed Y a performace B may get too loud. I'll take a look at frankencar.

Ollie
